I've been wanting to take pictures at my high school's games, but it seems like an exclusive thing to do, and plus I would have some lens envy issues with the other photographers on the sidelines. Those are some cool shots Bob. I really like the second one, the composition is really well done.

I'd love to hear what sort of feedback you will get from your instructor on it. I know what my editor would say and I'm curious if you will get similar feedback...

My editor would have complained if I had run this photo. Even though it is a nicely 'artistic' photo, he wouldn't have liked it. He likes to see faces. This is what I focus on for my fan/feature photos at sporting events. The shots Bob posted here are excellent examples as well. I specifically try for the candid shots where the subjects aren't looking at the camera and they are doing something interesting. I haven't been to any of the schools where face painting is common yet, but I will before the end of the season :)

yeah I agree, its more of an artistic photo than a journalistic one. It was my first game ever (yeah I know that weird lol) and didn't really know what I had to do, so i tried to get a little bit of everything. I ended up with both journalistic and "artsy" photos which made me happy.

Here are a couple of mine tonight. The roses in the band members hands was part of a memorial service during half time for a band director that had passed.
