will i be able to eat afterwards? exercise? live?

I prefer to have a root canal with any pain meds. First, the pain isn't that bad or at least as bad as people make it out to be and second, you should be able to do anything regardless of any painkiller a dentist will give you. You may drool a lot and speach may be funny sounding but agin thats why I don't recommend and kind of pain meds.

| If you have a good dentist they aren't as bad as everyone makes out! I didn't even need pain killers after I had mine done! |

If your dentist is good, the only thing that might be bad is the soreness of your jaw from having your mouth open so long. I've had two with just novicane and aspirin after for my jaw (TMJ). The sounds suck, but take a walkman or ipod. :)

I was refering more to not having ANYTHING even during the proceedure.

i was very scared about gettn gmy root canal, but I had a good dentist. he used an addition pain killer shot on top of novacain, he called it his little hammer. It is very fast acting, but does not last very long.
also ask for the happy gas :)

Here's a story for you... A year ago I had an absessed tooth and was scheduled for a root canal. Hurt like a sonofabitch. 2 days before the appointment I woke up and the whole side of my face/neck was swollen and hurt even more. I got feverish and decided that wasn't good... bad infection. So to make a short story longer, I went to the dentist, who sent me to an oral surgeon, who then sent me to the ER at the nearest hospital to remove the tooth and start draining the infection (they also removed my wisdom teeth during the surgery). The worst part was they had to put a breathing tube down my throat before they put me to sleep for the surgery. So afterwards they had me in ICU for 4 days, and then 3 more days in a regular room. All this for a tooth!

well im back, i had to get a root canal because about a year ago i had a cavity in a tooth and when i went to go get a filling the dentist drilled to much out and shocked my tooth nerve so it eventually developed an abscess, jerk
anyway it was fun i was watching them drill the hole and everything it stunk real bad once they got in there and started digging the mucous out and everything, smelled like decomposing flesh, which i think thats what it was
nasty horrendous smell
anyway i had fun, listened to some pink floyd when i was being operated on, quite an experience :-D
