Boy I'm going to sound stupid for this but what is USM. Can someone please come to my house and teach me. I can take the photos but I can't seem to post process them very well.

As far as photography goes, there are two definitions.
Unsharp Mask, by far the most common..
and on Canon lenses, the USM designation stands for Ultrasonic Motor. This feature provides quieter focusing.
