Having gone through the D & L entries, I must say I am a bit irritated by those who were so insecure to have posted their entry, or an almost duplicate entry in the forums over the past week asking for comments, in an obvious attempt to get a feel for how the voters would accept their image. There are more than one in this challenge who have done this.
My understanding was that our entries should be anonymous. That is ruined by folks who are taking part in such behaviour as mentioned above.
Sorry to rant, but I had to get that out

Speaking for myself, easily half the shots I post come from one or two locations, which I visit repeatedly. Any posting of "similar" images has nothing to do with insecurity. I just found my best shot at one of those locations. So it goes. I figure most of the voters don't follow the forums that closely anyway, so I just ran it up there.

Robt. - I can understand what your saying. But at least one of the images is the exact same image I saw in a post asking what people thought of it. This is not a shot that is just in the same place.
I have no problem with shots that are similiar due to location or that an image they liked now fits a challenge and they have the opportunity to repeat it. But to take a shot during the challenge time - ask in the forums for comments - and then when they get favorable comments enter it....well that just burns my bum! I will NOT be giving high makrs to people doing this as it insults the integrity of honest enties.

That does seem to go a bit against the grain...can you provide an example? I missed it. ;^)

I missed the thread asking for comments but I did notice that some of the entries were the exact same picture that where in their portfolio. I thought something like that was against the rules for the same reason you can't add text into your entire because now I know who the photographer is?

There were at least 2 entries that I thought I recognized from very recent forum posts wherein we were asked for comments about a very similar shot. I agree that this behavior would violate the intent of the site challenges. However, there are often times when more than one DPCer is at the same site for a shoot - specifically for an upcoming challenge - and it wouldn't be fair to penalize one because another one posted a similar shot early. But how do you know which is the case? Granted, I think that one of the entries in particular was obviously a breach of trust and "prescreened" in a forum thread beforehand. The other one I'm not completely convinced. I voted the one down accordingly.
There were several others in which I thought I recognized the model or the environment - but that's a different story and perfectly within my interpretation of the rules. =)
EDIT: This is just my own personal opinion.

I don't know that this is specifically going on, as I haven't seen the images you are referring to, but I agree with you 100%. The only exceptions being that people sometimes use the same model and/or location. But if that's the case ... such images should NOT be posted in the forums.
On the other hand, this tactic could have the opposite affect. Recognizing someone's model could possibly induce lower votes because voters are annoyed that it isn't anonymous as it should be.
Perhaps leaving an honest comment (not rude) explaining why you've marked the photo down would help deter future incidents. |

I looked at the photo that really stood out to me right next to the one in their portfolio and they are the exact same photo and it isn't possible with the subject for it to be two different photographers. Is that against the rules or is it just discouraged?

I'd say that's a question for SC...

Are there any SC that would like to clarify if it is against the rules or what?

It is not against the rules, just strongly discouraged. |

Maybe it is time to add to the rules - NO Pre-screeing! This is so wrong in my mind. If one does it, others are sure to follow. If that is the case then when folks ask for comments on a photo they shot, people will become reluctant to respond thinking this is another pre-screening. Those of us who simply would like a critique for personal images not planned for challenges will have a hard time getting them.
