I volunteered to take pics at a celebrity softball game at the Staten Island Yankee Stadium.
It was a fun day!
I would appreciate some critiques on how I covered the event as far as would this be good to submit to a newspaper.
I still have more images to put up but here are some. I know I have no action shots of the actual game...thats because many were covering this and we only stayed for the first few hours.
Celebrity Softball
BTW I should say that I only had my 70-200 F4 for shooting these. I had back sugery less than 2 months ago so couldnt carry the bag around. Left my ever so needed 28-75 and 580 flash in the car. All the ones I took were with the on board flash! Hey it was better than nothing :)

Nice candids! Boy, Danny Aiello has really aged. I think that the tilted angle works well in many of the shots, but not in all. Also, the sun looks like it wasn't especially kind in a few of them - it's so difficult to take good shots outside midday. But all in all, I think they are very good. Certainly some of them are newspaper worthy!

You really like the "angled portrait". Usually I don't... but yours do pretty well. I really like the colors in your photos... you have some great captures. I agree, some are VERY newspaper worthy.

I am aware of my angled approach. Funny thing is I don't even know it while shooting.
It just must be how i compose without realizing it....I do that in my wedding candids too.... and never see it until afterwards..... no one has complained yet.
When you look at all of them together it looks like too much, but I guess only a few get picked out of that anyway.
I guess I have to focus on getting more straight shots, but most look so plain that way.
Thanks for the comments....I am really interested in getting into the photojournalism field...hoping these might show what I can do.

The important thing in photojournalism is not artistic content. Just like in any story who, what, when, where and why should be as much a part of the photograph documenting an event to reflect the content od a story about it.
As such this image... //www.pbase.com/aprettypixel/image/48053567 ... is good because it identifies the event itself.
For human interest almost any of the images of kids enjoying the event or the picture of the pitcher would make good supplementary images for a feature story.
