What do you guys think about this idea: When you send a private message to someone, instead of being sent to the person's regular email address, there should be a place on the site (sort of like a web-based email box) where that message is stored. When you log on, at the top it could say "Welcome back, StevePax. You have (2) new messages" or something like that. When you read a PM, you could have the option of saving it somewhere, or deleting it, or replying to it, whatever. What do you think?

What would be the purpose of re-inventing the wheel, in a probably less fully featured way, than a standard email client ?

My email goes to work. However, I often am on here at night, when I'm at home. Can't check my home email from work, can't check my work email from home.

I have actually thought about this as well. I think it would be nice and convienient. I don't usually get replies from PM's and I think it's cause people simply hit the reply button rather than going to the email address given to post replies. They get it in their regular email, and treat it like regular email. I know I have done this at least once that I caught myself. I personally would like the convienience. All my photo related emails in one place here on the site. I would read the emails when I'm here on the site, and be able to respond or react right away.
I am not always 'in a photo mood' when I read my emails and say that I will respond later, and sometimes forget.
I support the idea. But only cause I'm lazy. lol

I support the idea too. I'm on the site more often than I check my emails.

fair enough. Just as long as I can get it forwarded to a client that'll do the spell checking, filtering and filing.

I would like it if the PMs could be 'replied' to as normal though. Could still be done pretty automatically without revealing the recipients email address if required too - just anonmise it through a @dpchallenge.com remailer

At least it wouldn't get lost in the sea of mail I get, it would be right here waiting. So i guess it has its plus side there!

Seems to me that Drewmedia is already so busy there's a posting here for a PHP developer. You could get your own free Yahoo or similar mailbox to use just for photo-related topics and correspondence.

As long as you have web access, you can get to it from any computer.
