by Ben Fox's photo from the time capsule challenge.
I had never heard of the Great Plains Conservation area before and with school age kids I really thought I'd been hauled to every field trip location in the state. So yesterday my daughter and I took our own field trip out there to check this place out. By the time we got out there major storms were rolling in so I couldn't get the Rockies in the background as in Ben's photo. But what a great place! Really gives you a feel for what it must have been like coming across the plains in a covered wagon. I have to give Ben major credit for finding a location without phone lines. I had to do some editing to get rid of them. Since it was a basic editing challenge he must have found a perfect location to not have them in his photo. These are two of my photos from yesterday, would love comments since I'm not a landscapes type. I think I may try a 4 seasons thing with this area.
Thank you Ben! |

I love love love the first picture, the negative space on the left, the rule of thirds, the colors everything so classic enough to make the picture a wonderful landscape shot. I like the fact that the sky just seems so natural, the gradient colours are so lovely and the slight details of the coulds. And I just have to say that I really like the softness of this image, sure there are a lot of people that will disagree with me and say that the tents seem slight out of focus, but I believe that's because our eyes are used to oversharpened pictures. Here the softness really blends in well with the rest of the picture, like the sky for exemple. The only thing in my opinion that could be improoved is maybe highering the contrast just to give the picture a little bit more pump.
