I submitted a question, but have not received an answer yet and am running out of time. I would like to know if, in basic editing challenges, I am allowed to use the Diffuse Glow filter from Photoshop?
Thanks!

No, no filters like that are allowable in Basic. Sorry.

What Laurie said. "...no effects filters (emphasis mine) may be applied to your image, with the exception of Noise and Gaussian Blur, which are allowed. Any filter permitted by this rule must be applied uniformly to the entire image. Selective application of any filter is prohibited." The few filters allowed in Basic are "cleanup" filters, like Unsharp Mask and Dust & Scratches,

Langdon was very kind to reply to my e-mail. this is what I sent: [ Thank you so much for replying! I'm not sure you'd call it a plugin. In Adobe Photoshop 7 it is under Filter > Distort > Diffuse Glow. It functions a lot like Unsharp Mask and maybe like Gaussian Blur. It creates an effect like Feivel's Gothic Glow.
I'll post a couple examples to the thread I started "please answer my
question, please?" I'm really hoping to use it for the Dairy challenge. Sorry I can't post them here, I'm having trouble with a corrupted web browser and have to use Outlook Express for the moment.
Thanks for all your hard work and creating this site! ]

Dang, I can't even get into my portfolio and upload any shots! Can't even write to Microsoft or whoever. Aaarrgg! (help?)

I wouldn't go to the trouble. Diffuse Glow is definitely NOT legal in Basic (nor is Feivel's Gothic Glow).

Too bad, thanks anyways.
I'd like to persue another route that Robt (bear_music) wrote to me about that is legal in basic. I really like the effect and would love to find various ways to use it.
Oh yeah, got a new browser, Firefox, likin it so far (yeah!)
Here's an example of Diffuse Glow I wish I could have used for this shot (but still very happy with my 5th place, for now)

Following shot was done to basic editing rules. Heavy neat image was applied to entire image, and a heavy jolt of USM was applied to the result. This produced a "glow" effect within the ruleset:

I assume this is what bea was referring to. I've done it also with gaussian blur instead of neat image, but in this case the fine detail worked better with NI.

Robt.

Nice!
I will play around with this some with Gaussian blur. I don't think I have Neat Image, where is that from? If it's in PS I havn't found it yet.
Thanks again!
