The monopod is good for inside if you want to sit indian style, watch the game, and have it ready for instant action without missing that split second shot. Other than that the monopods are really meant for outdoors. P.s. I tend to be lazy if the gym allows it. |

Originally posted by jansku: This is a very interesting thread indeed, I happen to shoot a lot of sports events (inside and outside) because my friends ask me to. Looks like I won't be able to afford a f/2.8 lens anytime soon but luckily my sweet Nikon D50 works pretty good with ISO 1600. Sure gave my some guidelines what kind of Zoom I should put my future money into. |
Yeah, I won't be putting out any big money either, but now I know some pointers and that I can use my 50mm as well. It may help me on the occasions that I do some gym stuff too.
I can understand my sister investing in a lens for that. Thats the whole reason she bought a new camera too! It's her only child and her favorite "subject". And the kid is an amazing athlete. (An amazing athlete that is going to love her Mother for taking great shots of her doing what she does best!) |

I would not recommend the 85mm f/1.8 or the 50mm f/1.8 or 1.4 versions. The autofocus is not fast enough. Your best bet is an f/2.8 lens with a fast AF using high iso... 800 or 1600. |

Ok, good. That's what she finally chose, the 2.8 more expensive lens! I however will make do with what I have since gym shooting is not a frequent thing for me.
I told her to up the ISO too, so hopefully she is pleased with her photos. |
