A good friend of mine is looking to make the switch to digital, can any XT owners give some feedback. ( iso, image quality, the flash, the controls, battery life) or anything you can think of.
Thanks for your time.

Image quality, is awesome. The better the lens he gets, the better the images it'll produce, but that's not necessarily a rule, obviouslly!
On camera Flash is not good, as all the other ones! Get an external one and be happy! I use a 580ex.
Controls are pretty intuitive, I never caught myself at a bad situation looking for stuff. The LCD is terrible under bright light situations, but one can live with it!
Images with high ISO amaze me, not a single useless shot with 1600 iso so far! and then, neat image can take care of it!
Battery life is good (I've shot 2 512 cf cards worth of photos, lowest JPEG setting (just for a website, in low-res) in a full day, and it still had some juice), but i'll be getting the grip and an extra battery for it.
It's very fast camera (start-up, shooting, writing and stuff), no lag at all. Light, a little too small, but then the battery grip is the solution.
I my humble opinion, I'm 100% satisfied with it!
I'd buy it again, with my eyes shut! |

You will find lots of feedback and discussions in the forums, just do a search in the hardware section.
Here's the review on dpreview.com.

1. ISO: Very clean compared to the 300D and other dSLRs
2. Quality: Good to Great especially in RAW
3. Flash: Don't use flash that much only the on board flash (??)
4. Controls: The only button that gets in the way is the timer button if you have large hands. You can push it by mistake.
5. Battery life: Very good, long lasting. That's using on board flash and no flash. Battery life will vary if you use an external flash
Above is my experiences. Hope it helps. |

| Ditto on above. Have your friend by the camera without the kit lens, though, as it is basically crap. For the extra $100 you save, you can buy the 50mm F/1.8 II and still have $20 left over. |

| I love it, great image quality, nice small size if the bigger slr's size bothers you. Some people have complained about the size of it or that its feels odd to hold but I love it no complaints from me. Very nice camera. Like mentioned before the battary life is great, I can go all day and not worry also I use it through out the week on my lunch hour and charge it at the end of the week. So the battery has a good life time. Depending on the lens the quality is just awesome. I have a 75-300mm f/4 lens and the quailty of the images or good. At the end of the month I am picking up my sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 and I cant wait for that. Controls are very easy also to learn. Only thing I keep doing is I miss and hit the timer button sometimes, other than that no coplaints. |

I use a 300D which the XT replaces. I agree with all comments here - the XT is a step up from my 300D with very nice smooth images.
The standard kit lens is not very good, as I found out when I bought a Tamron 28-200. Yes, I know this isn't a Canon L lens but the quality is wonderful and shows up the deficiencies of the Canon kit lens.
Just also bought a Tamron 17-35 F2.8 so now I can sell the kit lens because I simply don't use it any more.
For those wondering whether to buy the battery grip for the XT, I have the grip for the 300D; yes, it adds a further battery, but the real boon is the extra controls and shutter release when shooting in portrait.
Hope this helps.
