Just a reminder to all attendees - it's 1PM at the restaurant or 3PM at the main entrance of the British Museum. See ya there!

Thanks to Kavey for organising another GTG, good to see old faces and new :o) Now to start work on those photos...

Yes, thanks Kavey. Manic, you are quite a fun guy! I had such a great time and it was wonderful meeting you all. Can't wait to see the photos, mine will have to wait until I am back in Mauritius and I am connected to the internet again!

You're welcome, it was an absolute pleasure!

Sorry guy's I could not make it to the meet as my daughter was not feeling well and she just would not let go of me....

I didn't have anyone's mobile number so could not page you and also I didn't know which secret restaurant Kavey had set up the lunch otherwise I would have called there to inform you all.
Anyways seems like you all had a nice time and I will look forward to seeing the pictures.

Asit it wasn't a secret but since it was a reservation with a fixed number (based on those who bothered expressing interest) it didn't seem necessary to put it up here - those who had expressed interest were sent details and those who hadn't would not have been part of reservation number anyways. I would gladly have sent you details had you asked me for them in advance.

I did keep asking and topping the thread to ask if anyone else wanted to join and where to meet if they did not want to attend lunch but quite frankly if people cannot be bothered to respond to such then I will make effort more so for those who do. So my communication went to those who had expressed interest.

Making reservations and plans takes time which I am more than happy to do provided people who want to come can be bothered to chime in. Not saying you didn't but just in general.

I did top the thread as often as I felt appropriate given the interest levels.

Not to worry about not letting us know - we got to BM a few minutes late (at about 3.15) and assumed we'd missed you or just that you hadn't been able to make it. No problem at all.

Also, I'm never going to post my mobile number on the internet but have given it out to anyone who has PMd me for it for each of the many London GTGs. Many people have mine/ Manic's mobiles and are always welcome to PM us for them in advance of a GTG.

Kavey, since you posted this message here let's share my PM to you also...
-------------------------- Asit wrote to Kavey --------------
Hi Kavey,
Just wanted to ask you if for this meet you had any specific reasons for being so secretive about the whole thing...

(A)Booking for 8 people but still saying that you have already booked for only 5 originally... I wanted to join you all for lunch and personally congratulate Manic also but thought otherwise as you had already booked the lunch.
B) emailing the details personally to everyone rather than posting in the thread like last time June did..
C) For the whole time not even mentioning where should anyone else meet if they want to join after lunch... I see that Manic mentioned on the morning of the day of the meet but it was too late .

Anyways, don't take my asking this that I am upset on anything as if I was, I would have posted in the thread instead of a PM to you.

It all just seemed a little too odd to me. Moreover you had my number from last time...
-----------------------------------

Now to answer your response... First of all for not everyone DPC is the be all and end all of life. I had been busy with a work related project and did not get time in last couple of weeks to check much on DPC. Still I was the first to confirm back on this thread. Also if you note I did mention I will look in the thread for a place to meet. < must have been a reason... don't you think?>
I appreciate that you took the time to make reservations etc but I am sure no one asked you to do so in particular. GTG's are a mode to meet and make new friends... and I thought between friends we don't keep sounding like we did a favour to anyone else.

So thanks for the arrangements but no thanks.

As for the phone number, I know one should not post it on internet but if you have my first PM to you I did ask for your's and had sent you mine, but you didn't. (This was in response to your friendly invitation about meeting people in your profile.)

Well, now that I know you a little better.. you would keep going on and on about this in another response but I want to end it here........ My mail to you was personal and any decent person would have thought twice before putting it in a public forum. Also just so that everyone knows, your PM response to me is not particularly decent.

Still being decent, I AM SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THAT YOU HAD !!
08/22/2005 05:03:33 PM · #35
I didn't put your PM into public forum Asit, neither would I do so. You posted in this thread and hence I replied to it. In the meantime you had PMd me about this issue and I had replied to that also. I apologise for swear words within that - they were not aimed at you specifically but more because I was pissed off in general at the whole affair and have had enough of it, quite frankly.

No one asked me to do the reservation? How do you think these GTG things happen? Just out of thin air? I asked if anyone would like to do a GTG and then carried on to organise the details. Last time as I was really snowed under June kindly offered to do restaurant bookings since I'd also kicked off the GTG that time but didn't have time to make final arrangements.

DPC is certainly not be all and end all but... arranging social meets is something I choose to do because I think it is nice - not so that I can be castigated because I didn't arrange things as you might have done or to your satisfaction.

Everyone here is welcome to arrange such events and indeed I have said in the past that it would be _great_ if someone else stepped forward and arranged some of the London ones. That hasn't happened and I haven't previously minded doing so.

As for that thing about favours between friends - you are quite right that friends don't make a deal of making arrangements to meet each other but then again friends also don't blame their lack of communication/ time to finalise arrangements on each other either.

I'm sorry you couldn't find time to communicate fully on arrangements but I find it very upsetting that you write to me and put the blame for this on my not having chosen to arrange things to your liking or not having shared restaurant details/ phone numbers etc.

All those who expressed interest in coming to the meal knew where to go, as far as I am aware. As I said to you previously, had you asked me for the restaurant details, I would have sent them. No secret about the arrangements.

I also asked in the original post of the thread for people to PLEASE input on where to meet if they were not intending to come to the meal. No one responded. I didn't post a place because I was hoping for input from those who would actually be intending to meet there.

I have given my phone number to everyone attending a GTG who has ever asked for it, I don't recall getting a PM from you asking or I would have sent it. Why would I send it to others and not to yourself?

I have decided on the back of your messages that I am no longer willing to arrange any further London GTGs, however I have spoken to Manic and he has expressed willingness to organise the next one.

I'm sure he will be mindful to post all discussions and details on every element of it publicly for you.

Apologies for upsetting you in whatever fashion.

And I think you misunderstood my posts on lunch... I asked who wanted to do lunch. Only 5 people responded to me to indicate interest in that lunch. I booked a table for 8 hoping others (including yourself) would express interest. Jean and her sons contacted me and that filled the other 3 seats however if you had simply said, yes I would like to come to lunch, as did the others, I would have just changed the reservation to 9. No problem.

I'm not sure why you think this was a conspiracy to exclude anyone, but it wasn't intended to be.

Well, I really would have liked to have made this. In the end I was in London mostly on the 21st, but still only with a couple of hours free.

Made it to the British Museum too (there's some irony in there somewhere)

London gallery

Was in Cambridge most of the week prior to that too.

All images taken with a Pentax Optio S4, which keeps surprising me.

I managed to get thru 70ish of the 150-odd last night (out of the original 350ish), so hopefully I'll get my shots online tonight. If Kavey is processing at her normal speed, expect her shots to be online in about 3-6 months ;oP

I'm not sure I got any keepers but I'll endeavour to do them sooner rather than later.

I was pretty darn quick at posting mine from the last GTG - I think I even beat you, Manic - but I have to admit it did take me a year to do my pics from Southern Africa trip and I'm currently working on the pics from the Nov/ Dec Antarctic trip and haven't even started on the ones from the April Galapagos/ Peru trip!

I think the solution is for not to take as many pictures!

I'm out for the next three evenings and away most of the bank holiday weekend but I promise to try and get a handful up as soon as poss.

I don't think I have any good ones though, certainly nothing to compete with what I saw from you and Io and what Gordon's just posted... not to mention what Jean has no doubt acheived - I didn't realise until yesterday how many of her images I have in my Favourites folder!!!!

The only group shot I know of was a random one I took while we were walking to the museum, and doesn't have everyone in frame (or looking at the camera, or whatever). However, I've got plenty of other photos of everyone who was there, have no fear ;o)

Eeeek! I didn't take any group ones either...
To be honest I didn't really take many at ALL let alone people ones. Sometimes I'm in a photo-taking mood and sometimes not...
Ok I just finished training (been logging in during breaks) and am now off to meet friends at China Town...
Have a great evening folks and looking fwd to seeing any pics you have put up by the time I get home...

Hi manic, nice picture... I quite like the courtyard, glass roof and the golden lines.
No jade mask though?

I'll get around to adding mine, once I can get my laptop online. I left a comment on Manic's rotated curvy walkway photo. Now it'll seem like I'm copying from Manic when I post mine... d'oh!

Some good photos there, Manic. Lots of great candids from the British Museum entrance - did any of the fast shots you took come out? :-p
