I have entered six challenges so far. What I am finding interesting is that whatever my score is on Monday morning for the newest challenge, (about 6-8 hours into the challenge with approximately 35 votes) it changes no more than minus or plus 0.5 point throughout the week. Is this typical of most everyone else? Of course, that .5 points can make a very big difference in where we place, but I am just amazed at how little it actually changes over the seven day period. True for you?

I find the points average slows down in its fluctuations towards the end of the week. You will find its at its most volatile early week as a ten or a one will effect your average more when there is only 40 or so votes, a high vote will effect your score less when you have 150 or more votes.. You will find that after Thursday you can make a pretty good estimate of your final points average..

I have had that phenomenon, Marsha.

However, I've also seen my score go from 6.7 monday to 5.2 by Sun night :P..

And one time, my score steadily went up about .1 a day over the entire week.

Also, last week, my score was really even around 6.1 all week, until the LAST 24 hours, when it dropped to 5.8. That one was really odd. I must have received a large number of low votes at the last minute for them to be able to actually affect my average so 'much.'

Hope that helps ; )

That's interesting, Magnetic. What really blew my mind was last night, about 10 minutes before the challenge was over my score was 6.26, and my final score was 6.497! I I thought that was wild, as my score hadn't changed that much in any 24 hour period!

You will find that generally your score will jump a few points at the
end of the week as all the 'abnormally low' voters votes get thrown out
as being biased/ unfair/ not in the spirit of things.

E.g., if someone voted everything as 1's and very few 10s those votes would
be in your score for most of the week, but then thrown out for the final
calculation. It helps to mitigate the impact of the more pathalogical voters.

Wow, Gordon! I learn something new every day! I didn't realize it worked that way. Glad to know there is something in place that takes care of those voters.

After I read your post, I noticed that I had jotted down that I had 339 votes at the end of the challenge, but the total votes shown on the results was 320! I would not have even caught that had it not been for your post. That seems like a lot of votes to be discarded. Or is that typical?

Well, my newbie-ness is certainly showing now. But this is all very interesting info to me! Thanks.

Marsha

Being unwell and away from work over the last few days, I whiled away some of the time by analyzing the last three challenges I entered. One had a reasonable score, one a very bad score, and one in the middle. Regardless of final outcome the following held true: after 75 votes, my score never deviated +/- 0.1 from the final score.

In other words, if after 75 votes the score is 5.0, then the final score will lie between 4.9 and 5.1.

As I say, this held true over three rather different results.

Most weeks I would agree with what Jak as saying, as it is normally true for me as well, but with my Wrath photo, it went 2 days at 4.9/5 and then it jumped to 6.2ish, and ended up at 6ish.

It was a very erratic week!
