WOWSERS!!!
I broke into 6 land and got a top 33 finish with my 'Long Exposure' entry:
6.1885, 33rd
Feels great, never thought it would happen :-D (I think I like my new little Kodak) This site is amazing, I can't believe what I've learned in the last year + . Some time back, I was hanging out with my nephew, who is into photography and he took some classes at our local community college. Anyway, we were talking photography and comparing some pics and checking out gear and stuff, and he ended up telling me that it seemed that I had learned a lot more from my dpc experience than he had gained from the classes he had taken. That made me feel good. (Hey Drew and Langdon, when are you going to start issuing credits and diplomas and stuff :-P )
Anyways, I'm just groovin' in the moment. I want to really thank everyone here who has commented, critiqued, encouraged, helped and offered support along the way. You people really, really ROCK ! And many thanks to the voters and great comments on this one. Thanks again to lhall, I wouldn't even be in the member challenges without her :-) and she has offered a lot of words of encouragement.
And a very, very special thanks to my bud, my best friend for like a million plus years, and, whether he knows it or not, my personal photo mentor- Toocool
He introduced me to this site, he's taken me shootin' alot with him, always showing and explaining what he's doing. Countless hours of discussion and really fueling the fire in me. He is always there to answer all my stupid questions, and even the not so stupid ones :-P
He is always ready with advice, opinions, honest critiques and feedback, and has helped me countless times figuring out stuff I'm struggling with. He's given me photoshop lessons, and even given me a couple of his 'secret' recipes (shhh, that's a secret though).
He helped me a lot with this particular shot. Like I said in the photo info, I'd never had the camera before to try a long exposure shot, didn't have a clue. I had this (what I thought) awesome idea though, so I talked to Ron and he gave me a lesson :-P And as always, it was, "here's information and suggestions, now go shoot and keep shooting and try to get it right, let me know if you have problems." So, several frustrated phone calls and 3 days of work later, this was my result.
I know, you're probably thinking, man, this is a long and gushy post for just a 33rd place 6.18, but this is soooo huge to me. I've been at these challenges for like I said, over a year, and never even close until just recently, I've been kind of flirtin' with it with a couple of high 5.7 scores. I feel more motivated than ever now, so WATCH OUT!
:-P
Anyways, thank-you, and thanks for endulging my long winded gushy rambling :-)

It's a great shot! I'm honored to be ranked next to you LOL :0)
You are absolutely right. I have learned so much in the last couple months that I would never have undertaken without the challenge or without a goal. THANKS to all the members of DPC! Active or inactive, softspoken or loud! |
