take a comment you have received (current challenge included) and analyze it. what does it mean to you? was it useful? does it even make sense?

I got a great comment on this photo

Note: I normally appreciate all comments but when someone does something like this to get revenge for something I but in a forum... I have no problem pointing it out.

wow! I read that critique and was shocked. I think that you handled it very well.

Most of the comments I receive, like those generally made here, are wonderful and great of course. Comments such as "Perfect" or "I wouldn't change a thing" boosts morale (and egos of course) and makes you yearn for more comments like those. However, for me to learn and grow as a photographer, I sometimes needs the "blunt" yet constructive comments. A few forum threads ago, bear_music bobdaveant, and I got to chat about in-depth critiques based solely from a marketability standpoint.

Will the image make the cut?

I think the comments and feedback left for each of us really helped and thus promotes room for growth and learning.

Anyone else feels this way?

Agreed. THere are only 3 comments I have received that I don't like. Two blank ones and that one...

ok, here's one, since I started the thread and all.

i got a comment on the current 'wooden' challenge.. and for the life of me can't figure it out.

i of course left the persons name off, because i do appreciate the comment and am not attacking them.

"Subject Impact: Nice visual impact
Meets Challenge: Meets Challenge
Technical: OK
Composition: A little on the dark side
Creativity: Good Idea

Score: 4"

ok.. so i'd say nice visual impact would be 6-7 according to the comment.. meets challenge is either low or high, so 7-8.. technical OK 5, composition too dark? (isn't that technical, not compositional?) and good creativity, 6-7

average that all out for me... is it a 4?

just wondering how many people score this way.
i didn't really get anything from the comment.

Maybe they think it's a 1-5 scale? Seriously, I'd PM them and asked what they didn't like about it.

I got a similar comment from probably the same guy.. and know of a couple of others.. I haven't seen anything above a 5 yet.
I mean, it's good they're trying.. but this comment style obviously needs some tweaking.

Actually, let me edit that.. I guess it doesn't "obviously" need tweaking.. but one assumes that a positive statement would mean "better than average".. but I guess maybe it can mean different things to different people.

No matter what though.. you're right saint.. this comment only serves to confuse the heck out of me (although I did get a good laugh too), and I get absolutely nothing out of it other than that.

I've received that "robotic" often cold comment that leaves me confused and lost for words.

Personally, i like to make my comments personal and constructive. It was very gratifying when I received an IM regarding one of my comments. I've received a few IMs regarding my comments and I feel that I've helped them even if just a bit in my own little way.

This is the image that I made a comment and received a heartfelt thank you via IM.

Here´s one that I still don't understand? For those who'd like to know, the dress my daughter is wearing is modern version of Palestinian embroidered "thobe" I did send a pm afterwards to explain but got no response. Maybe this one was my "troll" of the day ;)

"this is the indian tradition, if u wants to show this kind of pic plz. use indian model, anyway girl is very sexy, and photograph is also."

But this one really made my day and I pm'd photoshootme to let her know
"I just love this...now where can I find one of these??? ; ) 9"
