Hi-ho,

I've done a bit of googling, and can't find a definitive answer for a question I've got, so here it is..

Using the ST-E2 and a 580ex or 550ex, can you fire the flash(es) in manual mode? I know you can when using a 580/550 as the master, but what about with the ST-E2. (Not worried if I have to set the power on the flash itself.)

And.. Will the infra red pulses from the ST-E2 fire standard optical flash slaves? ie: if I go to a st-e2 will I have to replace all my strobes with ex speedlights and only use Canons wireless control rather than my faithful vivitar 285's with optical slaves..

Cheers, Me.

The ST-E2 will fire your 550/580 in manual mode. There is an ETTL indicator lamp on the ST-E2 when the flashes are being used in ETTL mode.
