I received an email today about ICE. I have read two different articles about ICE on the internet and it appears to be a good thing to do...anyhow here is the body of the email....

Paramedics will turn to a victim's cell phone for clues to that person's identity. You can make their job much easier with a simple idea that they are trying to get everyone to adopt: ICE

ICE stands for In Case of Emergency. If you add an entry in the contacts list in your cell phone under ICE, with the name and phone no. of the person that the emergency services should call on your behalf, you can save them a lot of time and have your loved ones contacted quickly. It only takes a few moments of your time to do.

Paramedics know what ICE means and they look for it immediately.

Now here is what Snopes.com has to say about ICE
//www.snopes.com/crime/prevent/icephone.asp

It appears to be a legit thing but I was wondering if anyone else has any info on this.

We got that message at work and it seems like a really good idea. I have programmes some numbers in my phone but now when my fella (mudhut) callsme it comes up with ICE on the display!!!

I've gotten it a few times as well, and most people around me have adopted the idea. //www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,22989-1690668,00.html is an article about it.

Found a second one too...

Asked a paramedic here in CO (and I work ER), and they, nor I have heard of it. Even though we have used a cell phone before to contact a patients friend.

I don't see where it could HURT anyone to have it in your phone... just in case. And wear clean underwear, too. ;)

Even though this is a good idea. Will have to talk to my ED manager about a poster and the cards. Smart!

It was thought up by a British paramedic after the recent terrorist attack.

Thats a great idea but if I end up dead in a ditch I don't want my family to know or anybody for that matter. I just assume disappear.

Just added it to mine now...I think it's a good idea.

That is the one mistake about ICE it has been around since prior to the recent attacks, however, british paramedics are the ones who are telling the world about ICE. That is the one thing that Snopes.com pointed out.
