Taken with a $500 Canon S2 IS:
Taken with a $1500 Canon 20D and $1400 100-400mm L lens:
We were side by side shooting at the same track from the same distance in the same lighting, shooting the same thing and got practically the same score.
(Note: I know the advantages of having a DSLR and better equipment. This example is only pointing out that you do not need to have a DSLR and fancy equipment to compete here.)

Daryl-If you have access to these guys, I'd ask them to look directly at you, and point into the camera, while they have the hang time. And make sure you burst away, like a mad Mo Fo.
Would be a very cool, priceless image. Give it a try if you can. You do nice work and could make it happen. Love to see that.

Good idea, these guys love to ham it up for the camera as you can see from Tina's photo and photos she took here before.

This is a great reminder that you don't need a fancy camera to take great pictures. Thanks for sharing! |

I agree that as to attitude, equipment should never supplant creativity as the prime resource of acheivement; but just as in any field of endeavor, an increasingly better level of tools in the hands of one skilled enough to use them to their potential, will nearly always bring a higher standard of results.

I scored the S2 picture 1 point higher. I think the pictures are of a very similar quality. I liked the composition of the two bikes together. I see lots of single bike jumps, not so often when there is more than one.
