Has anyone else ever noticed this:

I seem to note that during the first 10-15 mintues of voting, my entries begin to pull fairly high votes (with "high" being a relative score, compared to my other entries).

Then, the score starts to dive nearly a full point over the next 100-150 votes.

Once the score seems to "settle out", it begins to creep, ever so slowly back up in increments of .02 or so.

Just me? Or are early and late voters more apt to give high numbers?

Ed: grammar

Doesn't always happen like that though... while it has been happening for me recently, i've had photos where I started out very low, and it bounded WAY up by the next morning.

Heh, lucky you! I don't think I've ever had an entry bound (or any other verb that suggests fantastic movement) in the up direction!!

Well, I think that a lot of voters categorize the entries on the first pass (usually in the 4-7 range), then go back and bump them into their eventual slots (3-10 range). At least that's usually how I do it, but it's gonna take some time with 600 entries! WHEW!

My entries always creep up throughout the voting period and rally a little in the last few hours.

This Textures Challenge will be interesting to watch for the first hours. I bet real zig zagging numbers.

Mine usually start really low then recover after a days voting. I also have a pattern of voting in medium range overall then readjust and usually vote higher on second round..

I made a thread a loooong time ago about voting patterns. I believe every shot will tend towards 5.5 because of truncating scores outside of the voting range, assuming a normal distribution.

For instance a shot worthy of an average of 8, with a standard deviation of 1.5 (meaning the votes are most likely 8 +/- 3) will have people who would like to vote 11, but are forced to vote 10. Hence opposing votes at the other end of the scale voting 5 get a higher weighting for their votes, so the score is skewed down the scale.

I believe the opposite is also true - scores below 5.5 will naturally climb.
