Anyone have any lens cleaning items that they are really in love with? (i.e. certain cleaning packages, solution, cloths, etc.)

Just curious what people are using :)

Lenspen's ain't too shabby... although you need to use the brush side very sparingly.

Microfiber cloths are okay too.

:)

I use a little microfiber cloth I bought at a local camera store for like 4 bucks... and when I need to clean the filters and lens with something more powerful, yet even cheaper, I use some Zeiss pre-moistened lens cleaning cloths I found at Wal-Mart in the optical department. 100 in a box, for $2.97. I also use a lenspen on occasion.

I like to start with some 3M 80 grit belts on my belt sander and go from there.

I shouldn't be saying this but, my shirt tail works great. Yeah I know but in a pinch whataya gonna do.

I like 50 grit sand paper as I find it takes all scum off with ease unlike the 200 grit that takes time and effort.

Well, with all the talk about non-scratch surfaces on our lenses, and how hard it actually is to scratch the lens, and how UV filters are protection are pointless, I've adopted the method of just using my shirt. It's pretty effective, and doesn't scratch the lens at all.

edit: the guy before me is obviously joking, but I'm being serious.

I agree with David, I figure that it's the dirt on the lens that would scratch the surface not whatever you use to clean it off (within reason), so I have long since given up on a lens pen and use my shirt too.

I was at a baseball game for the Padres here in San Diego and seen the gut from ESPN Magazine clean his lens off with his shirt. I wasn't joking I really do use my shirt. I clean my nose hands and anything else that needs to be cleaned with it. It's the all purpose cleaner

I thought jeans were the all purpose cleaner? I usually use a microfiber cloth for fingerpirnts and smudges, but for dust and lint, I use whatever's handy.

I guess I'm just anal, but I refrain from cleaning in the field unless I really have to. I don't clean at all, unless it's really necessary, in fact. When I do go to clean the front element, I first blow all the loose dust off, then wet a folded pec pad with eclipse (actually HPLC-grade Methanol) and gently wipe in a radial direction. Refold the pad, wipe again. I don't use finger pressure at all, just the pressure from bending the folded pad a bit.

I'm with the T-shirt gang.

Depending on the severity of the dirt, I use -
bulb blower
microfiber cloth
microfiber cloth and my breath to moisten
microfiber cloth and Eclipse solution

I have found Lenspens to leave a residue but do still carry one in my bag for emergencies. I wish they would have put a cover on the brush end.

Sounds like we should all start selling "The Amazing All Purpose Lens T-Shirts" :)

T-shirt, I was shooting some buffaloes drinking out of a big and dirty tank recently, suddenly one snorted water all over me and my lens. My T-shirt was handy.....
