Hi Ranters,

I just got the following comment. I have replaced the actual subject with XXX not to give away the shot:

"Oh geez, another XXX shot, XXX shots for everything submission. Without the title, the viewer wouldn't know what this photo meant. I odn't like it, so you get a 1 (my new voting scale, 1 or 10)"

It makes me smile :), since I purposely leverage the fact that we can use photo titles to stretch the interpretation of every challenge. (DPC would be a lot harder without titles)

Anyone want to make a bet that this fella is pretty frustrated ???

Whoever wins the bet has to give english lessons... :-)

Jakob aka Chakkobbo

PS I am actually not frustrated at all at this point since my score is faring pretty darn well @ close to 6.

PSS To the commenter: I rarely shoot XXX's BTW.

I'm not positive about this, but if they are only giving 1's and 10's then I think their votes will be thrown out at the end anyway, so don't take it to heart. I pictured your comment going something like...
"Oh Geez, not another garbage shot." LOL
I had the same thing happen to me elsewhere. I had submitted a flower shot, and kind of had the comment "gee...another flower shot". But it WAS my first one, and I wanted to find out how to shoot them and maybe get better.
Glad you can shake it off, and be proud of it anyway.
Good luck in the challenge.

At least you all are getting comments. I've had over 190 votes and only 1 comment. Score is quite ho-hum, so I guess that's why no comments.

-- edited --. And I'd also guess his votes would be thrown away by the vote monitor. But both of these are just guesses.

Are we allowed to give apples to the vote monitor?
10/10/2002 03:55:46 PM · #6
Uh, it's me :) my new voting scale, 1 or 10 for if i like it or if i don't. Would you feel better if i spread out the voting to 1-3?

The XXX shot itself is ineffective as a message for recycling without the title. Plus, you have submitted anotehr XXX shot for the past reflection challenge (i can tell it's done by the same person just by looking at how the image is created). If the photograph does not deliver the message, then it has failed and not very interesting and thus i gave you a 1. I could give you a 2 if it makes you feel good? :)

LOL at Drew.
To paganini, did you ever think that all the X's in the original post were there for a REASON??? You can use them too, and it would be appreciated by all. Especially the person trying to protect their annonyminity(SP).
Thanks.

Then why rant in a public case about their photo?

Oh yeah, didn't Drew just violate his own rule of not doing a "personal attack" on the forums? :) funny how these things work :)

And if my votes are counted down simply for using my own rules like what EVERYONE else has being doing, then it has proven my point: DPc voting is flawed and irrelevant.

Just to prove my fairness: i voted another "flower" shot in the garbage challnege a 10 becuase it sends the message without having to use the title. So despite my personal objections to having flowers in every challenge, as long as it is used to deliver the message, then it'll get the appropriate vote. I just happen to choose to vote 1 or 10's for the photo, i don't see the points of having a 5. And occassionally i'll give a 8 or 9, but mostly 10's and 1's.

Do you care to reveal your image, P., so that we can all give it the same style of voting? Or are you not quite as brave as all that?

Shame on Drew. *slaps hand*. Oh wait, it's his site! I think he has the right to do just about anything he wants. Maybe he changed the rules, made the post and changed them back. Yup, I think he can do that.
Now, I asked nicely if you could please edit your post to protect the annonyminity(sp) of the first post. If not, I can find someone to do it for you. :)
Ahhh...feel that power.

I am doing this for ALL images, not just hat particular one, and thus, i am using the rules. 1 is a flawed image, 10 is a great image. 5-6 is "average" but there is no such thing as an average image, either you deliver the message, or you haven't.

Now if the voting has categories such as technical, etc. then i'll vote differently but since it has an "overal vote" which to me means has it worked or not, then the answer is obviously either 1 or 10.

And since I am voting the same way for ALL images, it is fair. It's not like i only picked out the flower shots or snap shots. you can use my way of voting if you want or your own, there is no requirement you have to follow one set of rules or anotehr.

So, in a long-winded fashion you are telling me that you aren't that brave.

Yes, the power to censor any messages. So no one can personally attack another person except for the admins? What a great site! You make everyone wants to come here! Wow!

There wasn't any anonymitiy involved. There are 4-5 flower shots in this challenge, i didn't mention who is the person, though i had guess based on the reflection image who it could be berecause it's the same flower.

Pag - the only point that has been proven is that you are unwilling to accept that others do not vote (or wish to vote since I haven't seen anyone supporting your stance in the other posts) the way you think it should be done. The system seems to work for the majority of the site users so why not just accept that and let it go?

This is horse is dead and no amount of beating it will make it move.

Time to go shoot some "snapshots". . .

This thread is quickly going to escalate. We're tired of bickering in the forums, and I'm going to lock this. If you feel the need to clarify something with a specific user, please do so in private.

Through private emails i have known quite a few people who doesn't like the current voting scheme. They also happen to have some of teh most interesting photographs on this site (artistic ones versus snapshots). But anyway, i think they feel it's futile trying to change things and I happen to agree.
