Hi all,
I know that there are open challenges now and then, but there are some people that do not have much time to take shots (with work and other things). Is it possible to have an open challenge in addition to the existing ones maybe once a month, that you have all month to shoot and then for one week you can submit and be judged on the next week..
For example
week1 shooting
week2 shooting
week3 shooting & submitting
week4 judging
This would not be as taxing on DPC as the weekly challenges are but would give those that have limited time the ability to capture just the right shot, instead of panicing in the last few days and shooting any rubbish just to get a submission?? (Like I have done in the past)
Failing this could we extend the shoot time for the normal challenges so that more of our shots could be considered as applicable?
If you think both of these are bad ideas, thats ok, I am happy to do whatever!!
Brent

I would love to see any challenge topic that gave us that much time to plan and shoot...

sounds like a great idea.. kinda the reverse of a speed challenge.. a challenge where you can take your time and think about it.. and get your shot just right. (i know for some weeks, i'll get rain all week, and if i was thinkign of getting a sunset, well, there goes that idea).. having that much time could help someone get exactly what they wanted, without being too rushed.

we'd likely need more time to vote as well...with that much time, we'll get more submissions than normal I would think.

I think it's a great idea. The only problem might lie in the extra support the site would incur, plus, as already said, maybe more voting time for the 600 submissions. Would this cost us a fee? |

I think it could be a really cool thing if it was done in addition to the weekly challenges. Maybe even alternate months between Open and Member Challenges. |

One way to handle this would be to limit the number of entries. Once you get past 300 you'll get even fewer comments that you do now and with the extended length of time to shoot it will be even harder to judge since even more photos will be in the 7-10 range for rating.

to limit the number of entries would defeat the purpose of a 1 month challenge. The first 300 entries will be filled up by the people who didn't really take their time.. and would penalise those who are actually taking the full month to think and plan their shot.

Maybe it could be set up differently. Have registration in the first 3 weeks and submissions allowed in the last week only. If you leave it open for submissions the entire month then there could easily be over 1000 entries. No one has the time or the patience to rate and comment on that many entries. 300 is bad enough.

I applaud all those that try to submit an entry for all challenges, but for me...I'm going to be a bit choosier in the future so I can submit things I'm proud of (as opposed to what I've submitted so far). The challenge submissions I've entered so far would barely qualify as OK snapshots compared to what I think are my best ones.
Now that I'm a member I get to be twice as picky. :)
