Hey guys, would you consider photos from an Aquarium as a "do not meet challenge" photo for the at the zoo challenge? I mean, it's basically a zoo right? just with aquatic wildlife. if not, then i'll just save some money. =). |

I wouldn't lower a score because it was shot in an aquarium (my zoo actually has one). It actually be more interesting that photos of the same boring animals or worse kids at the petting zoo (just joking no one get freaked out). |

OMG!!! The challenge clearly states that this needs to be something you would see at a ZOO!!! Do you see the words "Aquarium" anywhere in there?! I DONT THINK SO! Therefor you can receive no more than a 3 no matter how good your photo is....
I really wouldn't care too much, but I just about guarantee you that your photo will get creamed in voting if it is something "aquatic" rather than a mammal/reptile (zoo-like creatue). However, this is only my oppinion, and only based on my limited observations of how voting here goes. If you do go unconventional, good luck!

Well, what about aquaria that are in zoos? Are you gonna vote me down just 'cause you don't know that my fish pic was taken INSIDE a zoo?

Personally, I think that aquariums fall under the "zoo" category (as they are caged animals on display) and would provide a nice variety of shots for everyone.
BUT... I do think that a significant number of voters will count off for it. Some people's thinking is pretty narrow when it comes to interpreting challenge topics and I think that they would feel that "aquarium" and "zoo" are two different things.
If you don't care about that segment of voters, then go for it. If you want a high score, then I wouldn't do it. It's just a matter of your priorities. :-)

LOL - I think you know what I meant... And no, I don't think that the average voter would consider puppies as "zoo" material. Although, again I say, personally, I am not a challenge topic nazi. I think if it has an animal in it (be it bird, beast, reptile, insect, fish, marine life, arachnid, or duckbilled platypus), I'll consider it meeting the "Zoo" Challenge topic.

Sometimes you only need one kid to turn your home into a zoo.
I have bitter experience of this, you know.

This is true, as I also can personally attest. I remember the sleepover birthdays, fueled by excessive quantities of sugar...

They have plenty of "zoo" animals at our aquarium in Jersey. Hippos, penguins, etc. Who would know? |

"Something you might see at a zoo" is a LOT broader than "animals", though. For example, a cage is a fair subject. A seal-food dispenser. A display of tropical foliage being misted. Pigeons begging for handouts. The list could go on and on...

Some animals present at an aquarium may also be present at a zoo. My zoo has rabbits, snakes, iguana; so I could actually go to the local pet store and photography them too. |
