Anyone else notice the similarities in the POV/angle/perspective of winning and even several of the top 10 shots in leading lines as well as the winner in Metal? I just find it neat...guess it's that whole reading left-to-right thing or something. Anyways, I'm probably just weird. Carry on! ;)

Lol, that is too funny. I didn't pick up on it either, but now that you mention it... plain as day.

If I can only find some ducks swimming from left to right into a circle... |

Oh my!!! So I may have done better if I'd simply 'flipped' my entry! I think you have a good point, I'm going to remember that.

that is a good observation, I wonder if those are more pleasing to the human eyes since a lot (but not all) read left to right so its natural to want to view an image that way.
This also helps the theory in the semi-heated thread last week about why centering an image doesn't always work, if these had been dead center they probably wouldn't have placed so well...second place metal photo the exception because your eyes still have all those pipes to follow around.
Great images altogether.

Yes, I did notice and also most of the top shots were of roads, path, river etc.. I particularly noticed Gibun's colonade just this slight off center made the image perfect

I agree that the bottom right hand corner is the most powerful area of a photograph - as sabphoto said, because we read from left to right and top to bottom. It is where we are familiar with travelling to and arriving with our eyes when seeing a page. Combined with the rule of thirds, which imports aspects of the principle of the golden ratio, the 5/8s or 1.3 line on the bottom right hand corner is the most powerful location to place you subject. I have horizontally flipped my Circles entry to take that into account.
I would be interested to have it confirmed that Arabic readers find themselves settling more comfortably on images that have a key focal point on the bottom left. I would also be interested to know whether Chinese readers feel that they have a different approach or preference, given the top to bottom style of reading (though still ending on the bottom right, I understand). There are probably a few books out there that cover this (advertising manuals, probably), though I do not have access to them.
