I needed a way to have this newspaper view my shots. This is the best I could think of, and I thought I would go ahead and keep things simple because no one wants to sit there for a flash animation or whatever.

Please let me know what you guys think of it...Any advice I will appreciate. But remember, I'm *trying* to keep it simple, and easy to navigate and to the point...but short, and sweet at the same time (meaning I don't want to sit here and make 50 thumbnails and make a ton of pages)...just something to update and upload really easy. BTW...I thought about pbase, but I'm letting my membership there expire because their server is always down and I want some reliability.

the link directly to it is...

//www.davidpaullphotography.com/proofs.htm

Or, the instructions I will give them are...

go to //www.davidpaullphotography.com and click current work, then proofs.

Sound good?

Thanks.

U should probably have thumbnails available and the ability to click on them to see a larger version. Newspaper people are notoriously 'quick'. They want to see and do in a hurry. They aren't gonna spend much time browsing, based on my personal experience with them.

Thanks. I guess it wouldn't be that hard to make a MAIN page. Where when they click on the certain event, it brings them to the main page and they can select a certain image from the thumbnail. That's what -- like 5 extra minutes if you're working with 50 or so images...not bad.

I'd have to agree with Setz about the thumbnails. There are programs that will do it easily so that it's not a pain (Photoshop, jalbum, etc.) If you're really opposed to that, I'd at least mention somewhere how many photos are in each set so that they have some idea of how many they'll be looking through.

Newspaper designers do a lot of 'hole filling'. When they are looking for art, they generally know what shape it needs to fill. It makes it easier for them to see what they need quickly.

Photoshop CS does a good job at making down and dirty gallerys. The galleries here are all PS galleries, slightly edited in Dreamweaver to add my logo.

another real simple gallery created in PS

Cool, thanks...try the link again.

I made the thumbnail page straight from proofs. You might have to hit refresh though.

I think that's a much more user-friendly way to display photos.

Pbase is only $25 or so per year for 300mb of storage space. It's very easy to browse and setup galleries for a project like this.

I have pbase. But half the time it's up, sometimes it's down, sometimes it's just super slow.

BAH I'm tired as heck. I think the navigation is a little on the rough side still. I'm going to update it tomorrow and make it so it's like the rest of the site...it will have one of these like this...

NAVIGATION: Home | Current Work | Proofs | July 4th

But not one for each ... that will sit in place of the back to this, back to that thing.

edit: thanks a lot for your help all. Any more tips, please let me know. I'll just have to read them in the morning :D
