Someone with a bag over his/her head gave me a 10 on the macro challenge with this comment: "...Might get low votes because there isn't anything to compare the size with. I'll give you a temp 10. Don't count on it staying."
...Look, whoever you are, ...I'm already at my lowest score ever (4.31). Please don't artificially pump me up, only to come back later and bump me down to a 3 (or worse). My already deflated ego won't be able to take it.
Edit: ...make that a 4.29

I have no sympathy with a man who has 7.39 for a high, and a 6.50 for a low on his top five.
If you were a newbie, and/or just can't take a pix, then I would also be begging for leniancy. But.........

All I've got to say to that person is 'So? Since when does there have to be a size comparison in a macro/close-up pic?'
I've got a bag on my head during voting, but that doesn't give me a license to be rude (unintentionally or otherwise). lenkphotos, I'm truly sorry you had to get a comment like that. Maybe that person will see this thread and perhaps re-think at least the wording of his/her comment. The way it's written it just comes across as mean.
Here's a cyber-hug to make it at least a little better >>>>><<<<<<

Aw, c'mon. Have a heart, huh?! (The law of averages says that after 71+ challenges anyone should break 7 once and 6 a few times [...don't look at my 10 sub-5s]) ;-)

The part of the comment that you didn't quote says a lot: "Not voting. Just had to let you know that it made me laugh..."
In other words, the user was just using the vote as a placeholder. While I don't subscribe to voting this way myself, It's certainly not against the rules.

Congratulations! True or not, you are the first person I've seen who ever said they got a 10 they did not deserve. We ALWAYS hear about people who wonder why someone could give their masterpiece less than a 5. Nobody ever questions that their image got a 10.
The truth is that people have different views both above and below expectations. You almost always see the same image get both 10s and 1s. That is to be expected from such a diverse group. Photographers don't seem to realize that.
I spent a lot of time commenting on images over several of the last few challenges. I've gotten a lot of positive feedback for the comments I've made and they have not been sugar coated.
In each of those challenges I gave EVERY image in the challenge a score of 10 and and not once did I hear anyone complain they got an undeserved 10. Not once.
You are the only person I know who ever sincerely meant it when you said it and I have not voted the macro challenge yet so it wasn't me who gave that score. :)
You are just going to have to fess up to the fact that someone actualy really liked the image.

I've got to go catch some fireworks soon, so I'll fess up. Yes. It was me. My intent was to cheer up the photographer, knowing that the score would be low. I did not enter the challenge and will not be voting on it. I did scan the thumbs and this particular picture tickled my fancy. I couldn't not say something and the only way I know to comment is to vote. The 10 was to show that I liked it but then I thought that it would cause the score to be inaccurate. So. The line he quoted at the beginning was more of a warning that it wouldn't stay, because the vote would be discarded at the end. Sorry to cause the distress.
A special note to Sara. Please don't assume things based on inaccurate and biased information. Because the op decided to only post part of the comment (the part that would gain him the most sympathy), you ended up saying that I was rude. It's all in the presentation. My statement about it getting low votes is correct as confirmed by the op.
Edit. Thanks Kirbic for posting the rest of the comment.

Sometimes I wonder if the voting period is too long; perhaps it should be only 4 or 5 days so people wouldn't have too much time on their hands...it seems the longer it goes people really start picking out every little detail..I had a comment on one of my pics recently that the horizon was so crooked it was a major flaw, so I went to photoshop and checked it and it was off by 0.12 degrees..wow, what eyesight! |

Seems to me that is what is supposed to be happening in the first place. Your review of the horizon was correct. It does not have to be off by much to be a major flaw.
