Anyone going tomorrow? Everyone? (Apologies if this has already been discussed.)
I'm packing along a camera, though I have a feeling it will get ditched at my friend's place because a) I will be thoroughly intoxicated, and b) I don't expect much in the way of photos other than good crowd shots.
Philly looks to be pretty good, but gosh do I wish I were in London for the show there ... Killers, Floyd, Elton John ... amazing. |

My sister just phoned me to say she'd scored free tickets for the London Live 8 from this girl who'd won them in the original lottery but has since wangled her way into the VIP area!

No, sorry... I should have clarified. We're going to an annual BBQ - one of our uni friends usually does one every July but she couldn't do it this year so another friend's holding it... out near Cambridge... kind of an all day/ night one on Saturday and then on Sunday we'll probably go to this local winetasting thing...
We ARE going to see Queen a week today though!
Yes, I DO know Freddie's gone... (I don't think I'll ever get over it) but I figure this is still going to be something special...

| I will be at the Philly Live 8, but only to take some pictures. I really only want to see Stevie Wonder. Maybe Springsteen if they got him to play. I'm not crazy about the other acts, but I want to at least be there for an hour or so to show some support. |

Anyone know if it's being broadcast in the states? I would love to see U2 in London.
edit: Found it - broadcast on MTV and VH1. Must set up the tapes for this one. Not going to kick myself on this one.
And Kavey...Queen & Freddy were one of the highlite's of Live Aid.
Still trying to get a full copy of the original Live Aid. I bought the DVD but it's not totally complete.

Heh, my bad punctuation has magical powers - to add Kavey to the Live Aid lineup. ;-}

ROFL re my being part of Live Aid! ;oP
Yes, one of the moments of Live Aid that I just adored and remember most strongly is the awe and excitement I felt watching Queen. Eeven now, 20 years later, I can almost feel it.
I wasn't at Live Aid itself but watched the whole thing on TV at the time... it was one of the most exciting events of my childhood!
Oddly enough, before Pete and I had met, and not long before Freddie died, we'd both made vows to ourselves that the next time Queen played anywhere in the UK or even in Europe, that we'd go and see them. You can imagine how gutted we were when he died.
Honestly, I really still mourn him now.
Crazy isn't it?

Not crazy at all. You sound like you were/are into Queen as much as I love U2. I am sure I would be devastated were something to happen to them.

See I think they are gods (ok I'm not entirely being serious here, before anyone gets arsey about my belief system) but... I never owned all their records, bought a single one of the singles or anything. There were other bands I listened to more and owned more music by. But by the time I hit 18 I just knew that Queen were one of the best bands of all time and that they were unique in a way few other acts, even my favourites, could claim to be.
I really like some of U2's music but the band members leave me colder than cold. But if we all liked the same things life would be boring, right? :o)

Live Aid was 20 years ago... I think geldof chose this year (rather than last or next) to capitalise on that anniversary and the place it has in UK collective memories... worldwide ones too but especially UK I think.

And I think U2 are Gods. And every concert is a life altering, religious type of experience. Yes, most everyone has their BAND - and not everyone has the same BAND. And that's totally ok - but I can at least relate to your feelings about Queen.

| Hey fellow Queen fans I have a question for you. I have been trying unsuccesfully for over 15 years to track down a soundtrack from the movie Highlander. Does anyone have a clue where I might find one. It has some of the best music Queen has ever done. |

| I'm gutted I didn't get myself a photographer's pass for this... if it had happened a few weeks later I'm sure I could have sorted one out on the back of last week's photos. Looks like I'll have to wait another 20 years then. |

Don't feel too badly...the producers will probably be kicking themselves for not seeking YOU out to get pictures. ;)

LOL, thanks! I am lucky that I took photos of many of the bands involved last weekend... and I took photos of Elton John a few weeks ago against the same video backdrop which was really difficult to get effective photos against. |

All in all, not a bad experience. Philly was ridiculously crowded - and the bastards didn't televise the Pink Floyd set like they said they would. Fortunately the local radio station replayed it later Sunday night, so we got to hear.
Anyway, some seriously corny shots of the festival.
Stage
Flag
Def Leppard!
And the only decent thing I got (of 160 shots)
