Here are a few of the pics I took yesterday at the Caldwell Zoo in Tyler TX. It was incredibly hot (101F) so most of the animals were pretty inactive or were inside, but I got a few that I liked of these guys. :o)

Did you use a tripod on any of these? |

I know it's been said already - but that croc shot is fantastic, spectacular - it's a frame it shot for sure!! It's a WOW :-)
Very nice work with these - the giraffe ones have great color and tone - the elephant shots are great capturing the water.
Thanks for sharing - and oh my gosh that croc is awesome!
Edit: I fell pray to the croc (no pun intended) terminology too. I didn't read - I was too busy admiring the photo. As I saw someone else say - I also believe $$ is in your future on that one.

Wow, thanks y'all! I really liked the croc a lot myself...I wish that I had my tripod with me or at least had the sense to change lenses, but it was so hot and I was tired, so I just left my 75-300 IS USM lens on and bumped up the ISO to 1600 and prayed when I clicked. All of the shots were handheld (I am notorious for traveling without the tripod).
For that croc...the full size version was very noisy, so I used curves to darken the background as much as possible, then used the magic wand to select it, then used the paint bucket to fill it all in with black. It was black anyway, well, rather a dark greyish black (he was inside a reptile building, in a glass-enclosed tank, where the surrounding rock walls were black), and there was a light above him shining down that really highlighted his head well. That was just luck. Anyway, I wound up blowing the shot up about 300% and using the blur tool to smooth out some noise, then boosted the sats a little, added the frame, and voila.
I'll have to upload the original so you can see... I hated to run it through Neat Image since it loses so much, so I didn't. I'd love to make it available as a print; I'll try but I don't know if it's still a touch too noisy.
Anyway, thanks so much for the comments and faves. I truly appreciate it!!!! :o)
