Not just the challenges, but there are people who would start a thread and post images from their shoots in the forums, asking for comments and not even bother looking at what others are doing. All they check is what others have to say about their work. Mostly all the nice things. Lack of respect. me me me me me me me

I think it's got a lot to do with the spirit of DPC community.

I'd agree with this, and add that in general, experience in seeing work by other people, and taking them seriously, increases the potential of a person improving his or her own ability to see a shot, and take it.

Very few people are born with the innate ability to instantly recognize a "moment." Only by looking at what's been done, could one strive to capture something unique.

KaDi's right...your score may fluctuate up and down a few 10ths of a point at the very most, but once you've reached 100, you pretty much know what your final score will be. I'd even go so far as to say after the first 60 or 70 votes!

I don't agree and my Fantasy challenge is a good example. It sat at around 5.2 after 100 votes (written here on my blotter) but it ended up with a 6.3.

It's just a rule of thumb. There are always exceptions. But in 59 challenges, I've personally seen that rule broken but once. Rarely will your score change a full point up or down from the initial first 100 votes.

Here is a suggestion......
Your challenge entry is deleted at the end of voting, unless you have voted 20%.

Remember that this is an international site - not everone has speed connections - not everyone is comfortable with English.

Or perhaps the original 100 were going through for their second pass and bumping up your score. Many people make significant changes to their votes over the course of the week.

I generally find that my score starts off low and climbs throughout the voting period. But i don't agree with Alienyst - if it only got 100 votes, they'd still be spread over the whole period, and my final vote would have been the same.

With every open challenge getting 400-500 entries, but not as many votes, how about making it a requirement to have a decent votes cast / votes received ratio in order to enter open challenges?

I haven't read the ToS, but if its an issue, maybe exempt paying members from this rule.

Thoughts?

This is a good idea if you wish to reduce activity and participation at the site. Reducing the high number of submissions to manageable levels is a thought worth having.

If you want to increase voting percentages it would fail miserably. Many would chose to stop entering open challenges rather than be forced to vote.
