Depends on what you plan to offer.

They've already booked your services without knowing your pricing? That puts you in an awkward position I would think. What are their expectations?

what do you mean the first is ports and I won't have a hard time finding out what pricing is around this valley. But for the raft trip thats a differant story. They are taking care of my food (and transportation I guess) but I would be taking pics of every thing.

hummm are they your family or someone elses? Do you like them or just put up with them? Have you or they borrowed maney from each other? Do you want to be friends afterwards? If they are your family maybe have them pay for the river raft trip and food and charge them for the cost of the prints. Put a sticker on the back of all of them and use that for advertising. If they are not your family get at the bottom of the biggest rapid and hope to catch one of them drowning ;). The insurance company may buy that photo from you for a lot. ;) Have fun.

They told me they wanted me to take the pictures period. No matter what charge. I would love to have a hay day and buy every gaget that I need but, with the photos they have seen they are really impressed and I also don't want to rip them off.

I went to look at some of your great photos .... where are they? Even if you don't submit for a challenge drop a few in your portfolio for us to admire.

This is kind of weird. I just had to tell a client to call one of my friends to do another family reunion. Kind of differant turning a job down.

Idaho hummmmmmm, I have a family price and a friend price and a business price. They all don't know the difference. Of course Wedding type photos for 8x10 can run from $15-40 each, nature with a group usually runs less. If you get some great action pics you may want to try to sell them outside the "girl friends" family and then the sky is the limit. Now will this "friend" be your Mrs someday, if so you will be paying them back for a long long time. Probably with a family group the chance to sell very many is limited. Maybe tell them that for a new lens (a couple hundred dollars) you will take all they want, remember to put a label on the back of each of them and maybe a small signature on the front corner. It looks to me to be a great way to advertise for future sales. The river trip has a lot of possibilities for brochures, magazines, tourist, city etc. Be careful Idaho girls are as bad as Provo Utah girls, going to school to get married.
QUESTION: Why can't murder crimes be solved in Idaho?
ANSWER: Everyone has the same DNA and their teeth fall out early leaving no dental records!

Enjoy, Originally from Orem Utah, 20 years USAF, now San Antonio TX and presently visiting family in Orem. Oldest some getting married so I guess I'll be the photo guy for most of it. I told him he owes me, if he ever gets sassy again the bill will be submitted and he will not be able to afford it easily. Have fun on the river trip, a couple years ago I took my two sons and my dad on a 6 day Cataract Canyon Colorado trip, it was a blast but I only took a cheap water camera ... darn. Guess I'll have to do it again with a good one.
