I got this photo awhile back and just stumbled across it, would have been great for leading lines.

What do you think?

it's ok - would have given it a 5

The lines do lead you into the scene, so they are leading. They don't, however, lead you to any particular point of interest.

IMO, a leading line(s) will lead you through a scene, and a good leading line will lead you to a point of interest within that scene.

Nice picture but I have to agree I would of given it a 5. The lines lead to a scene but not to a dramatic subject so that's where you would loose some score. However to give you an example, if there would of been a nice covered bridge at the end of the track then it would of been a great shot. I hope that helps in what voters MAY be looking for.

(IMHO) Leading Lines don't really have to lead to bang in my face subject for me...

I personally like a good minimalist approach when it comes to leading lines... take me out of the picture or over the edge...

Now that I've said that, I may have to correct myself. Thinking to myself, Self I just described Vanishing Point and not necessarily Leading lines. Leading lines are intended to force the viewer in a certain direction to an end result. I stand corrected.

Back to Travis's shot... Nice shot that would have netted a 5 from me because: This is a tough shot as it is somewhat backlit by the overcast day, making the viewers side dark in places. The light areas through the trees really make the dark trunks stand out, drawing my attention to the right almost become the main subject over the tracks.

Ideally for me this would have been taken from other side of the tracks in the same direction... omitting the lake and sky (as they add little), and possibly had a subject near the vanishing point of the tracks preferably dressed in attire that contrasted all the green that is going on in the background of the shot.

Just my thoughts...
