Hey! I just caught a really big spider just outside my window. Now I want to go bed and shoot the spider tomorrow. I've heard before that putting insect in the freezer will slow them down and make them, hum... More docile. Is this true? Can it kill it, what about the colors? Will they be affected? Any other tricks than the freezer? Thanks! |

Think the freezer will ummmmmmmm kill him!!
Try putting him in a plastic jar with a lid with holes in it for air for the night. Put a tissue in so he's got somewhere soft to sleep. Maybe some food, water......wine to make him feel at home.
LOL j/k on the sustenance but the plastic jar works....not to slow him, but keep him alive with vibrant colours.

Freezer might be good if it dies, so you can shoot it next time. |

Lots of insects have been kept in freezers successfully. I'm not sure about how long they are in there, though.. or more importantly, the temperature of the freezer may be the difference between slowing the creature down and causing some vital cells inside their body to crystallize and later break. Make sure you have the thing secured though - last thing you want is a spider let loose in your food! ;P

Thanks, I allready have done that, but to shoot it... It's got pretty long legs and runs quite fast, I was so freaking surprised to catch it in the first place... I've read a thread somewhere about how to slow down and "numb" insects before you let 'em loose to shoot them. |

Catch a fly and toss it in and it would last longer then putting in the freezer :P |

I've never tried it to be honest, but just giving advice based on what I've heard (which may not always be the best idea :X). I would assume that the fridge wouldn't make a huge difference - I'm sure that there are spiders living in colder places than most of our refrigerators. You could try it though, and let us know..
unless you meant that it would be worse to let it loose in the fridge.. then.. well.. yes. :)

How many drops of Vodka do you think is necessary to get a spider drunk? |

Get a short piece of string and tie some of his legs together. That'll slow him down! |

a big hammer really works to slow bugs down, and you might even see some new colors ;)

put him in the refrigerator.
When I first read something about saving him so you could shoot him tomorrow, I was disgusted that you would do such a thing. Then I remembered I was on a photography board. |

Freezing does work. I used this:
on this guy (and others):
And he kept coming back to life. Also sentenced him to a few hours in the freezer and that didn't kill him. I finally released him to go and warn his friends not to enter my wife's kitchen. ;-)

Call me horrible but the only good spider is a deceased spider. Freeze the sucker, and if he dies, that's one less creepy crawly icky ugly son-of-a-gun to worry about. Like ew. ;)

The freezer should work, but only put him in there for a few minutes.
My dad taught me this tricks when I was a kid.
- Catch a fly and put him in tupperware, put in freezer for three minutes.
- Take a single hair from my sister's head (about .5 metres long)
- Remove fly from freezer
- As fly just lays there looking wet, gently tie one end of the hair around it's neck (but not too tight, the head will pop off) and tape the other end to the table.
- Wait a minute for the fly to wake up and when it begins to fly you will have it on a leash and it will fly around in circles, attached to the hair...
- Get bored after ten minutes and flush the whole contraption down the toilet.

Ha Ha Ha!!! you are my kind of guy... Yup.. Freeze him and then you can shoot him without being bother of it running away or biting you.
But then on a second note if it bites you we might just have a spiderman...
:-)
Nah... I think you should have let him go.
