OK, I'm maxed out on research.......conclusion: I won't be making a huge mistake going with the F717.

Now........where should I go? I'm seeing low end prices with USA warranty in the $680 range including shipping; I doubt if I'll do better than that. I plan to buy accessories (memory) elsewhere like on Ebay. Just want the camera for now. Any insights?

Great Website. Thanks everyone!

My insight is be careful going with the lowest price. The internet is has a slimy underside. Pay a few bucks and be sure to use someone with a good rep. Research the merchant as well as the camera or you may be VERY unhappy.

My recommendation would be, scope out local camera shops. Some of them should carry them. No I don't mean Best Buys, CompUSA, etc. Most shops that I've looked at are pretty competitive with their pricing in regard to online shops. Plus no worries about shipping, (lost my d100 during shipping the first time I tried buying it), and you take it home right then and there.

But, if you're going to shop online, do yourself a favor and check out resellerratings. Any store that you're thinking about purchasing will be on there with a customer rating and reviews.

Personally there's too many new stores online now to even bother with. So many are just trying to make a buck and scam you. Like sending you an email to tell you to call them to "confirm your order/address" only to get a sales pitch for accessories that are at least 2x what they would be somewhere else. Don't want accessories, no problem. But it just so happens that the camera you want is suddenly out of stock. Not to mention the number of shops that will advertise a USA camera at a grey-market price to lure you in. You either wind up with a grey-market product in the end or charged even more than competitors for the USA model. That's why if I do shop online I'll only look at 2 or 3 stores now.

If this sounds bad, that's because it is. My point is, don't let the lowest price be your only criteria for deciding on a place. Yeah you might get lucky, but what happens when you don't? I've learned after a few times that I'll gladly pay even a few hundred more for piece of mind than have to sit there and worry about this and that.

Poor choice of words for my post. I'm very impressed with what I've read about this camera, and look forward to getting one. Actually for my wife, for her birthday. I'm aware that it's hard to get top service with lowest price. I was just wondering if there were some personal experiences out there with some of the better vendors. I'm hoping to find one in the low $700 range incl. shipping. Many lesser vendors are down in the 670-680 range. Thanks again very much.
