How would you go about fixing this old image to make it more printable?
The little boy in the photo ( now a very grown man) has asked me to make a better print of this photo if possible. I've tried various things, but nothing has really improved it much....

if u have photoshop, try selecting highlights(control alt tild) adjust levels,
next.
select / inverse, ie shadows, and adjust white balance slider in levels, bit better eh. I think so, but no time for me, late for work.

I just took five minutes to fiddle with it... I'm not having much luck but then again I'm not known for my PS wizardry. ;)
I adjusted the contrast significantly, made it a darker duotone, dodged and burned, cloned out the big specks, blurred some of the noise, used CS2's noise filter, made more of a border, and sharpened it up some. Probably not what you're wanting, but it's my attempt.

Here is my attempt. I think one of the biggest things to do is start with a gaussian blur. The image (whether its the actual image or just the scan) has weird pixel blocks in it. The gaussian blur cleared this out.
After that, desaturated it, cloned out artifacts, played with shadow/highlight, and brightness/contrast. I also burned some of the fish behind the people in the foreground to make the people stand out more, and dodged their shirts. Finally added a Sepia photo-filter to tone it a little more and re-write the date in the upper right becasue I liked it :)

I am on a different computer, but when I get home, I will fiddle with it.. I have repaired a lot of old photos and gotten really great responses. I clone out all the old scratches and spots and then use curves and neat image. It makes it look fresh and new all over again.
I'll edit and post that when I get home which will be Friday. But that is an idea of what I do to repair old photos.
