Hmmm, I am having a hard time voting on these because I thought the challenge was to vote on something that we would not see in this world. However, many pictures are, um, of things you do see in this world.
Anyone else having the same trouble? |

well to be honest everything that is photographed here is a picture from here... so needless to say the challenge is not possible. I am voting on creativity. |

The challenge does not say to photograph "something that you would not see in this world" It says to photograph "something that you may see in a world beyond our own"
Quite a difference, you must admit!
Edit to add: a photo of a McDonalds would be quite in order, I should add, as it is the first thing that earthlings would establish beyond the outer limits... JK

Yes. But by definition, all photos are taken of something you can see in this world. I think the key is whether a photo shows you something in the world that could be fantasy. Think of a fantasy movie. Film exposed to real world (CG aside) but still creates the illusion of fantasy. Suggest voting on the illusion the photo creates ... plus all the technical photographic stuff like focus, DOF, composition, etc. |

A 'Fantasy World' doesn't have to exclude items that can be seen in this world. For example - someone could have a 'Fantasy World' where cars run on cow dung - the image shows someone shoveling piles of it into a container labeled 'fuel' on a car, in a cow pasture, with cows visible in the background. Another example - A 'Fantasy World' where nobody goes without food - no starvation. etc...
These can be 'Fantasy Worlds' WITH items that are SEEN on this world.

Well, I was going to say horse poopie, but figured that wasn't quite as realistic. More cows out there you know.
Can you tell I have 3 kids? ;^)

Fantasy is something we could imagine, cz if we could see it wouldn't be fantasy, it'd be reality! It's obvious we need to shoot something in our world. Needeless to say no1 can go to diff worlds to shoot something that meets fantasy! But, c'mon, a blurry flower is not quite what I call fantasy!
To me the images that best meets the challenge description are these ones:
and this one
Take a look at the fairy tales challenge: those are really good examples!
Challenge: Fairy Tales
I see no diff to this challenge, except that it narrows down the subjcet a bit, but it still is fantasy! |

That is excellent advice. I was going to put this picture in: but decided it wasn't quite "something that you may see in a world beyond our own" If I had put this in, what would your reaction have been? |

Aveage 4.3 ungh!
my second challenge and I don't pretend to understand photoshop.
What I do have to say is that the FANTASY idea is tough to interpret. There are some amazing photos of truly fantastical things outside of our world. Do we vote on the idea? The picture? The Overall? - do we take into consideration that there is a photo we don't feel is fantasy orriented but is a good photo? - I think I should have stayed out of this one. However having said all of that - this is a place to learn so critiques are good and I don't have a singel comment after 79 votes. I tried to comment on some and I understand what it takes to comment on photos you don't necessarily like. How do you come across as not being mean when you don't like a photo? As many people do not necessarily like mine????????????
Anyway I am enjoying myself and am trying to teach myself how to take better photos.
Good luck all |

5, maybe a 6. Couple of distractions from a critique perspective.
1) The background color doesn't compliment the photo. White a better choice maybe? Hair would get lost on black.
2) There's a piece of paper (?) behind the scroll work of the guitar face? At least that's what it looks like to me.
Have anymore? ;^) Actually, probably should save that for another thread. Can you say hijack?

Maybe it's just me, but I'm really surprised at reading through this thread at how low the scores are because I think there are some of the most amazing special effect photos I've seen that very much look like a fantasy world. Someone earlier said this has been the funnest challenge to vote on. I agree. I'm giving out 9's and 10's right and left.
I say GOOD JOB to everyone who entered this one, because I think the pictures are really cool!

The entries are droping now down to 148. Looks like the SC have had a few DQ request. |

This was a very interesting & difficult challenge. IMHO, the front runners leave the rest of us in the dust.
There were a number of us (I'm afraid that I may be included in this group :*( that attempted to extrapolate too much from our own imagination - and that it didn't transfer very well to our final images.
I'm hanging at about a 4.8 with only 1 comment (albeit a helpful one). Oh well, live and learn, right??? I'm prepping for my Leading Lines II entry now; hoping to better my best score to date! Sometimes I think I'm taking one step forward and two steps back!
Just my 2 cents... :-)
Jimmy

I wonder how many ppl see "what" I photographed, in a daily basis. It's not something "out of this world" but, ppl also "dream" of the past, of traditions, as a fantasy! But I think ppl can't see that hehe! well.....
Also at high 4s and 1 comment |
