Hello Cool Cats!
I went to the virginia beach aquarium yesterday & was forced to use a high ISO that resulted in some serious noise.
I cant seem to remember what I did to get rid of all the noise from my last visit to the aquarium & was looking for some help.
So basically, PS wizards, help a sista out & see what you can do to get rid of the npise in this pic
Please list the steps you used so as to allow me to replicate it on the vast majority of pix I took that look just like this one.
Thanks in advance & peace!
:)

Good luck, I had a quick look and ran away again. That's pretty bad noise! |

How's this? I just used Neat Image (available for free on the internet). |

That's not so bad on a small web-sized photo, but I'm not sure NeatImage would be up for the whole-res file. I'd be happy for someone to prove me wrong though. |

yep that's pretty good. I have neat image as well but some of the other shots just dont work with it & was wondering if there was a harder, longer way to get it done on PS.
Good to know that the shark shots can be cleaned up pretty easy.
As for Bob.... say it aint so! I dont blame ya tho! :P

Let's see one of your hard-to-clean-up shots. |

Noiseware also did a great job. The community edition is also a free download.
I like to use both Noiseware and NeatImage in my digital darkroom toolbox.

Here's my try... I'm not good at this kind of thing so I consider it a good opportunity to practice! I did a quick auto contrast, then I selected the shark with the magnetic lasso tool, then inverted the selection, and blurred the entire background with about a 20% blur with a big, soft brush. Then I inverted the selection and blurred Mr. Shark with a smaller brush at about 8%. Then I ran the whole thing through NeatImage. I will leave it up to the PS gurus to come up with better ways around the noise. :o)
edit: I was trying to preserve some detail in the shark without killing it all in NeatImage... but it doesn't look very good. Oh well! :o)

About 45 seconds in CS2 and voila!
(lots of compression/jpeg artifacts from original)
Auto-level.
Noise reduction, Noise up to 8, color noise all the way up
Smart sharpen.
Repeat noise reduction again.
Probably could do better, but I'm in the middle of a clutch job right now - LOL.

If you are looking for software, I heard Noise Ninja is good. No first hand experience with it though.
