I was wondering does anyone know how to hack the Rebel 300D to make the brains think like a 10D?

you can't exactly do that... you can improve the rebel with the undutchables hack, just do a google search for it.

I have the hack installed & it aint all that to be honest.
You get some features that the 10D has but mostly I neer use 'em.
If anyone else gots some advice/clues (as I clearly dont) I would love to hear 'em too.

ISO 3200 is nice... and RAW in sports mode too as well as FEC. Other than that I don't use too much of the upgrade...

how do you handle the noise that comes along with the ISO 3200?

I don't process it at all because I hate the look of neat image. Sometimes you can't get the shot without the noise though.

What is FEC?
Also, will the 300D have a faster shutter speed? Shoot Black and White?

FEC is Flash Exposure Compensation, basically you can tell the camera how bright to flash and it works for hot shoes. No b/w mode, but why would you want to when it's easier in post processing.
I don't know which hack is better, but there's the wassia hack and the undutchables hack, and the undutchables is based on the wassia and has more features from what I remember. Not everything on it is 100% working yet however *cough* AI-SERVO >:O *cough*.

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to put 'hack' software in your camera? I mean on the surface it my appear to give you more capability, but how do you know it is doing everything else right?

You also get mirror lock up - nice for long exposures.
FEC is great if you have no flash unit or a simple one. I can program FEC into my flash unit, almost as easily as if it were in camera.
RAW in sports mode..i don't use that at all
I think it can do RAW+JPG as well...not up the latest revisions.
AI-Servo is better, but not perfect.
It changes the EC from 1/3 to 1/2 steps I beleive, or that may be your choice in the undutchables.
I have heard of no warranty issues - folks have sent teh camera into canon with the hack installed, no probs. You can always reload the Canon firmware.
As to shutter speed - that is a mechanical issue of the shutter. Frame rates are a function of RAM and chip speed, again 'mechanical' in nature.
The two hacks are the russian one, names wasia. it is the original. The undutchables is the more current, newer more feature rich version.
You can learn more and ask questions at the canondigicamhacking yahoo group. There are over 11,000 members. Both hack files, directions, etc are in the files section there.

I didn't know they'd fixed that. I remember there being an issue where the camera would servo focus, but the shutter wouldn't release.
In addition, I used the hack primarily to change the size of the embedded jpeg in RAW files to give more capacity on the card (i.e. fit more pictures in). As I remember, the hack can be used to change the function of the 'set' button, for instance , so that the picture quality can be changed quickly. With mirror lock up enabled, it is only active in single shot mode. In burst mode, it is automatically disabled. One can then shoot in burst mode normally and simply switch to single-shot mode to enable mirror lock up.

now i am using AI servo in Tv, Av and Manual mode
the controls are a bit weird, but hey, i got AI servo :P
1. change focus mode using the right dial button
2. focus using the shutter button (fully pressed)
3. shutter release via the left dial button

wait... left dial? how does that work? I know I can't release it via the shutter.
edit: also doing it that way loses predictive focusing iirc so it's not true AI-Servo.

The hacks void your warranty, right? And I thought I remembered somewhere a while back reading that discussing them/promoting them was a violation of the site's TOS or something to that effect... I hate to be a wet blanket but I don't want to see any of you fine people booted from here OR have your camera break and not be able to be repaired because of hacking. Y'all be careful, k?

Voiding the warranty is not related to it either a) being illegal, or b) being against DPC's ToS. I can void the warranty of my camera by immersing it in my bath tub.

Hey, do what you want...I just don't want anyone to get into trouble with the admins here or to have a broken camera on their hands. Just because the previous threads (and apparently this one as well) weren't locked or hidden doesn't make their existence right.

I've heard of people sending in their Hacked rebels for repair and that Canon serviced them anyway. My warrenty is already expired so what does it matter anyway?
