WELCOME new guy.

You might want to start by reading the FAQ.
Then post back if you still have questions.

There are two challenges every week with additional challenges infrequently. There are challenges where you have to be a paying member of the site to submit to and there is an open challenge where anyone can submit pictures. The challenges usually have a theme and the idea is you go out during the week of that challenge and try your best to capture that theme.

The bottom of each page states "All digital photo copyrights belong to the photographers and may not be used without permission." so yes, pictures are copyrighted. In the terms of service for the site that you agreed to when you signed up you did agree to give DPC the right to use your images for display on the web as part of the challenges etc.

The awards are virtual ribbons that collect in your profile. There is no monetary awards and no promise to put you in a book or anything like that. This site is nothing like 'picture.com'.

The challenges are fun and they get you out taking pictures, usually of things you wouldnt think to take pictures of. A lot of people here have become excellent photographers due in part to the site. We also have very active forums with (usually) helpful and friendly people willing to offer advice, opinions, and support.

Welcome to DPC!

Two more tips:

Read these:

//www.dpchallenge.com/tutorial.php

//www.dpchallenge.com/how.php

I found them very useful. Also you may want to hide your e-mail address. If people on DPC want to get in touch with you they can pm you through here.
