So sorry to bother, but I have some time on my hands.
Can someone please tell me in noddy language how I should go about in PSCS2 to prepare a pic for printing. I can not understand how to get the pic on 'ratio' nor how to save for printing(or is save for web okay?). I would like to upload a few pics for sale.
Again, so sorry to bother but this will keep me busy for the days to come. Thank you. |

Hello gibun! Good to see you online.
I have just acquired CS2, but I think I can give some basic help until the real gurus show up. First use the CROP tool and select one of the common ratios such as 8X10 (or do they have it listed as 4:5? same thing). Then I think using SAVE AS a jpeg or SAVE FOR WEB will be fine; probably a better question for the real photoshoppers.
Good luck with your print sales.

I don't have CS2 but I do have CS. Maybe this feature is in CS2 also. First Crop your image to largest size your printer will print not letting the ppi go below 150. Then save as TIFF or PSD, not JPG because JPG degrades the image with compression, so don't use the "Save for Web" on a image you plan on printing. Use "Save As". Then I go to File > Automate > Picture Package. There you can choose a single picture on a page or multiple pictures of different sizes.
EDIT: Save AS JPG for DCP Prints because they only support JPG at this time. Just make sure you use the "save as" feature.
I'm sorry but I though you were wanting to print on your printer when I read the title to your thread. But the Cropping is true on DPC Prints. Set you crop tool to the dimensions you want 8x10, 8x12, etc. and crop. It will tell you in the dpi section what your resolution is. Anything over 150dpi should be approved.
Again sorry for the mis-read.......

When I ready a print I use the crop tool as suggested then do a save as. To save full size. Then resize and save for web at 150kb as if I were entering a challenge. Upload the small version to my portfolio then upload the full version for a print. When you click the crop tool in Photoshop there is a menu to the right at top to selct aspect ratio. On the cropping issue I always select 1.5:1. I have found that is gives me the most sizes so people have more to choose from. Hope this helps.

At first reading, gibun, I took it that you were preparing to sell prints on DPC? After reading sdw's reply, it prompted a 2nd look and now I understand that you are printing hard copies for sale yourself, is that right? I think you are getting answers to both questions here :o) |

Can't help on the preps because I don't have ps. Just wanted to let you know I'll be buying at least one of your prints when you get them uploaded. Good luck. Can't wait to see what you will offer. |

Sort of a bump... I want to prepare pics and sell them on DPC exclusively. I have no intention to get into printing for myself, I will buy my pics from DPC.
Thanks for everything you are great people. I will try your advise once I can drag this old body further than the bedroom door.
