but i'll show only 3 ;)

initial trials had colored sand - though salt worked the best
if you look closely
you can see little trails on the salt crystals
that is the decay of the flash (initialy very bright then dimming till extingushed )- they are in the reverse direction of the movment of the salt -
the image was done at 1/160th (6ms) and the flash was ~3-5ms -
bit-o-fuzz in the center ofthe image was salt dust --
--not too messy -- large sheet of paper under it all caught almost all
but glad i used salt & not sugar ;)
it was noisy - 3watt 5"speaker & my familiy didn't care for the experiment
thankyou thankyou all |

This was one of my favourites in the challenge. I think I like the blue one slightly more than your submission if it was rotated straight. Nice work!

I really liked this picture. I didn't get to vote on this challenge but it definately would have gotten a 10 from me. |

i thought this was the most dramatic entry and of course it got a 10 from me.and i must say i was totaly wrong(yes i can admit when i am wrong ;)..)red didn't add to the drama after seeing it with the salt. congrats on your top 10 even tho IMO this should have ribboned. 10th still isnt a bad spot to settle with all the great entrys. :o)~~Cher~~

i'll have to admit that the reason there were so many outtakes was because it was fun to do .. ..
& yes, PaulMdx, the blue outtake may have been a bit better in 640x? but i felt that since it was supposed to be a grandular challenge, i had more 'grains' in the submitted one .. and i really liked the reverse streaks ;)
ALSO (probably not optimal) i usually judge by full resolution - and again the salt was better..
