Challenge Submission

My 1st submission

(I retracted this one as i felt many would not approve of the blurred effect)

Alternative

(higher angle of attack)

2nd Choice

(i almost submitted this one until I finally got the shot I used in the challenge, i am curious how this one would have done)

-------------------------------------------

Anyways, this was my first 6.0+ challenge entry - thus achieving my personal goal of a 6.0 finish. And I placed 11th (one shy of my super-goal/hope to place in the top 10). Of course, the Apple challenge had several DQ's in the ribbon level - but I don't think that will happen. All in all I am quite pleased. I believe I entered one of the most unique and creative shots of the challenge. And this time, it was photographically decent enough to allow the creativity to shine.

:)

And with 35 positive comments I cannot see this shot as anything but my first "sweet success". And to further sweeten it - not a single "1" vote. Which is good because I felt there was no justification for such. I am even kinda curious why the one "2" vote but I deal. "3" and up I am accepting of.

By the way, an entire container of pepper was killed in the making of this foto-shoot!

Big congratulations on your highest-ever finish and score. Feels good, huh? And do NOT lose any sleep wondering whether you'd have done even better if you'd set the board up with white in the lower right, as you're supposed to (wicked grin)...

I liked your entry alot and did mention the angle and yes, I do like your alternative more. Congratulations with your over 6 score, that one was a landmark for me and not so long ago :)

Congrats Jason! I do like the Alternative and the 2nd choice a little more, but you'll really never know if it would've faired better. Great finish!

Bear Music got it right, that's why you got a 2 vote. Or not, who knows.
Congrats on finishing that high!

It's the next entry that will bother you, as you always want to better your last attempt.

Board explanation - yes, I realized it was reversed. Sadly, it was extremely difficult to um...re-arrange. The issue was on the back drop I used (a approx. 2'x4' poster board). And I realized I could not take the shot on the properly arranged board because the perspective was wrong and I lost the black background. Living room floor just wasn't appealing. *lol* Only one person commented on it though.

I contemplated 'flipping' the entry but it did not have the same appeal of perspective. So I let it be...

I liked this shot, and I'm going to go against the grain and say I think you made the right choice on submission. I like it better than the alternates.

edit: BTW, congratulations on a strong finish!!

I actually posted a few outtakes on my LiveJournal to see how my friends felt about the entries and they also chose the one I submitted. So I think it was the best. But I think the 2nd choice was also a strong contender and appeals more to those fond of symmetry.

However, I know if I entered that one, I'd get some comment about how I should have used the Rule of Thirds. ;)
