Hey everyone...
First let me say that I am happy with how my photo did in the "5" challenge, but I expected it to do a bit better, at least getting above a 6.0.
Can you guys tell me why it was voted as it was? Constructive criticism....
Thanks

Cant help ya there.... I gave it a 10... I love the abstract nature of it and the diagonal lines... Well done in my book!

Not sure why it did not do better. I thought it was a great photo and from the comments you got many other people did to. My only advise is to say you can pleasse everyone, and some days you can only please about 10 commenters

So the alcohol was lit on fire for this shot? It wasn't until I read the photographer's comments that I figured this out. I could see that there was some funky light stuff going on, but I did not realize that it was flaming liquor! |

I don't think it did too bad, actually. I gave it an 8. Doesn't seem to be anything "wrong" with it. Be happy with it - and be happy ya didn't burn down the house! :)

Excellent question! It is a technically excellent image that I score a 7. It is visually appealing with nice colors and appears to meet the challenge.
I figure one or both of these reasons: One, and I am not being fasicious, maybe voters did not count to 5 to see it met the challenge and voted it low because of it. Two, they felt, as said in one comment, "I am sure some will vote against the abstract nature of your photo"
Be satisfied knowing you took a good picture. Great imagery is not always appeciated the first time it is view.

Okay, here goes: The writing on the glasses destroyed the mood for me, I kept seeing glasses with different writing on them. The black line extending from the first glass to the right some how severed the blue effect as well. The spillage on the first glass seemed out of place, it would of been nicer if it were around all the glasses. The angle of the glasses did not work for me, nor how they were lined up. These are strictly artsy thoughts. So, I gave it a 6.
On the good side: WHAT A WILD IDEA. LOVED IT. The colours were great, had a easy feel to it and very pleasant on the eye. Fire at its best. This idea should be expanded and worked on. Should be a challenge.
OOPS spell check...

The blue on the tray is actually the entire spill. I poured the liquor on the tray and lit it. So the black line is the edge of the puddle of alcohol. The "spillage" is actually the shadow of the shot glass, not fluid.
Thanks for the input though. :)

Red circle, still looks like spillage, black line I'm still not sure(in blue) darn straight line.
Still like it.

I didn't vote in that one, but it's a cool shot that I would've expected to score a little higher too. My guess would be that it's an interesting effect in search of a reason. It's cool eye candy, but doesn't offer a "story" for the imagination to explore. I've got a current entry in the same predicament. |
