couple 100% crops from a photo i took yesterday. seems this lens is quite sharp. i found this bird while weed whacking yesterday - it almost got whacked. i was only about 12" away - the original is uncropped. taken in RAW - converted to tiff - then to JPEG - the original is slightly sharpened - the crops are not.
it's a grosbeak

well at least the fact i was only 12" from must be a little interesting?
i actually moved the grass from around him with a stick. touched him a couple times. then eventually he flew to the fence, and then off into the brush.

That's one hell of a covert operation you've pulled off - don't think i've ever seen a wild bird shot that close with a 100 mm focal length!

As for the sharpness - I REEEAAALY want a macro lens !

well the string trimmer was right on top of him.
i'm thinking it put him in shock - his life flashed in front of his eyes - and he figured he wasn't going to get to mate this year despite the long journey north. but alas - the trimmer stopped - i am alive - so might as well pose ;}

Wow, the Sigma 105mm is nice and sharp. I wish I could've tested out my Sigma. Unfortunely my 300D had to be sent to Canon to get fixed the day I got it.

I just got one about two weeks back and think it's the best deal for the money. For a hobbyist you need to look no further.

original, unedited

This was taken handheld at around 10-15 feet away.

It's my favorite lens! My last two challenges were done with it (in voting) AND I've been taking candid portraits galore with it.
