Last weekend shot portraits of a nice couple. They have been married 20 years and wanted at least one shot to be indicative of their intimacy over the course of their marriage. I asked them to kiss. I rushed the shot and it came out very soft. Used Thresholds to come up with this version of it. //i6.photobucket.com/albums/y249/RonBeam/RV10.jpg
In this format it was simple to clean up because editing did not involve hue or tonal values, just shapes. I was able easily remove any suggestion of clothing and they loved the effect. The first version was not one tenth as steamy as this one. So, don't always delete an OOF shot.

She doesn't look old enough to have been married 20 years! Nice save Ron, I have gone to similar lengths to save a shot or two. Glad they liked it. |

wasnt it recoverable with focus fixer or the new Smart Sharpen filter in PS? Could you post the original? |

i dont think out of focus is something you can really ever fix, unless you do it before you take the picture.
this is kinda cool looking though

Here is the original. USM would not have saved this. They will be making 14 X 16 prints, so sharpening something this soft was not an option.//i6.photobucket.com/albums/y249/RonBeam/av04.jpg

Plus ... the imagination of the viewer is the photographer's best tool. As was stated, she appears much younger in the threshold version ... and he as well. |

You should try Focus Magic. It nailed this instantly.
Here it is (but I'm sure it would work better on the full size version):
Edit: I should mention that I like the posterized treatment here. But if you want to recover the shot or others, try FocusMagic.

Using my Olympus CZ2100, I sometimes used to shoot this style in camera. It was rather hit and miss and works much better done in Photoshop where one has more control over what one is doing, but I enjoyed seeing unexpected results. I was quite pleased with the results of these two:
Ignoring focus issues, I much prefer the editted version.

Made comments on these. I have always enjoyed this manner of image presentation, if rendered for the right composition.
