$100 now... supposed to be one of the best RAW converters for Canon, available through Phase One Inc. Anyone got any experience with the non-LE version?

I'd been meaning to download the LE trial version for a couple of days now - is it any good ? There is a 15 day trial available I think.

The non-LE version is what, $600 still ?

Also, how does it compare to the similarly priced Adobe RAW converter photoshop plug-in that will be free with the next version ?

It's pretty cool as everything is adjustable in REAL time. I have noticed things with clipped images that it doesn't convert as well as Canon, but other than that it's sweet to use.

The sharpening thing is supposed to be REALLY good. With "soft" sharpening, literally no effect is seen, might even be competing against Fred Miranda's Custom Sharpen thing.

Supposedly the skin tone conversion works really well with Capture one. I have played with it a bit and it seems to be pretty good but I haven't really noticed a dramatic difference other than the sharpening thing.

So you mean there are now sharpening artefacts, or that you can use soft sharpening to convert it with no noticeable sharpening ?

Breeze browser at least now allows you to convert without doing any sharpening at all so you can use edge sharpening algorithms later. I want to give LE a shot - does the trial version have any limitations other than the 15 day usage ?

I used the Phase One non-LE trial version for my 1D when it first came out. I really like how you can see your adjustments in real-time. Also I got the best skin tones with that software that I have ever gotten. I didn't end up buying the software though because the price is pretty high for me. In prints I just can't see enough difference to justify that, or to even justify RAW at all for that matter. I rarely print larger than 8x10 and I am usually pretty good at getting the exposure pretty close to where it should be. The only times when I really see an advantage to using RAW is in difficult lighting situations and with high ISO (800, 1600 and 3200). I do think that for the high ISO raw conversion Capture One does a much better job than ARC. At low ISO I can hardly tell the difference. I haven̢۪t ever used breeze browser or Yarc Plus so I can̢۪t comment on those.

No, just the 15 days.

What i mean is that the soft sharpening mode sharpens without introducing artifacts, it doesn't mean it does not introduce artifacts, but very minimal compared to Canon's sharpening thing.

I think the main thing is the RAW conversion and the ease to adjust white balance, etc. in real time. That's the biggest advantage. As far as what is it different from Breezebrowser -- i haven't seen the different files yet except the edges are smoother and less sharpening artifacts are introduced.

But you can probably get some sort of custom sharpening thing photoshop that might be better still. I think i am going to convert a couple of my files and check out the difference with the "default" settings only.
