My entry for the Minimalism did fairly well (I think) - the average vote was 5.155. However, out of 349 votes, 220 people rated it 5 or lower. The comments I received were positive for the most part, and I was wondering if anyone who scored it low would be willing to tell me what I could have done better. Don't worry, you can be honest - I'm asking for criticism, so I won't hold it against you if you hated the photo. :)

Thanks for any help!

Well, I gave it a six. Contrast takes away, I know it is needed for stop action, but was over the top. For minimalism, only one poker chip is needed. A green felt is needed to represent gambling. The back ground is to sharp, even if it was green. Remove those four, and make it darker (gambling).... The technical part for stop action, cropping and all else photographic is perfect. |

It's not really on topic. The fact that it's a stopped motion action shot overpowers any element of minimalism that it may have, which I don't really see. So, the photo won't be considered on topic by a lot of people.

You have multiple subjects and they take up a signficant amount of the canvas. I would've voted it a 4 for not meeting the challenge.

I quite like the composition, but it strikes me that the chip on the left is not quite as sharp as it could be, at least on the bottom (narrow DOF I guess). I didn't vote in this challenge BTW, but would probably have given it a 6 if that's any help.

I felt the addition of the quarter diluted the message of the shot. |

I gave it an 8. I assume people couldn't get their head around much outside of the size/canvas rule and all things implied. After all...rules are rules.
I think you did a great job and took what I saw as one of the more interesting images in the entire challenge. I see more aspects of true minimalism in this shot than I did in a large percentage of entries that were voted better.
It's probably no more than the fact that your strong subject was divided into three points and not one.
