i was reading lately quite a few articles in the forum about people having nasty experiences with the subject 'taking images in public'
even about abuse of photographs of children (see thread LaurielBlack=important)
anyway for a change here is a pleasant experience for u:

last saturday i was roaming the country-side again looking for good shots
at one time i found myself taking images of a part of a hedge when suddenly i heard a loud voice from the other side of the hedge asking: what the hell are u doing there...soo i answered:taking images....from what ..the voice asked...i said: come on over and i will show u
and there was this young man clearly the son of a farmer and a bit nervous at the sight of me and my little fuji and what i was upto
soo..i showed him the images i took and though it did not really convince him of me being a good photographer it took away his suspicious about me and he relaxed
than he said: damn.. if u really want something to take photos off worth it come and have a look at this... this is the real thing....follow me
so i did
we arrived at a little open shed ..and there it was ..the Precious..
under a very old dusty blanket made of empty sacks..
the Porsche Diesel Standaard
all in develish red..obviously a beautiful piece even for an outsider like me
he pulled the blanket away and when he saw my interest he just pulled off like a rocket
for the next two hours all i had to do was giving him a nod now and than and think about catching some nice features of this kind of fotogenic vehicle.. this boy did the talking just kept rattling about this little red tractor ..like a waterfall..every little screw every little ditch had a story and he told me all of them
how his father was a young boy and was allowed by his grandpa for the first time to ride the little devil and when he could not find the brakes and bumped into the house..
all the little bumps had a little story to it and were treasured therefore
he told me all about the technics.. wich i didnt understand a lot and so i told him...but he didnt seem to care and told them anyway
he was a passionate and good entertainer at this subject i remember thinking
in the end i forgot most of the data he overwhelmed me with
i cant even remember the year it was built..i do remember he told me Porsche stopped building tractors in 1963..soo its probably at about 50 yrs old i figured
about every detail is an original from the time when his grandpa bought this cutie
from the leather red saddle full of repairing stitches to the little bulbs inside the simple dashboard
in the end when i asked him to pose for a shot with his beloved tractor he just kept on talking and i really had to ask him to shut up for a sec so i could try and make a decent picture of him..he give me this quick smile when i said:shut up
i took my shot..and he would rattle on again about this and that regarding the tractor..and how he was afraid and thinking of me taking pictures of the tractor and steal it away and..
but in the end it was all good ..i had a real kool time with this boy named Florian and he invited me to come over whenever i felt like
i think on occasion i will give this invitation a follow up
i really like to have another shoot at this and take it out for a ride in the fields (it seems to have a real nasty and loud roar..for wich it is even more famous and wanted) and people with a passion like this young man..are mostly interesting people on the subject..soo i have reasons to see them again soon and i have to hand him over some prints

my english a little crippled but i just felt like telling the story as being a nice experience in wich taking images in public makes u bump in interesting stuff and such
and i figured there might be a few people interested in pictures of this rare and beautiful oldie
soo i had a lot of fun..hope u have some too

How very, very cool! Great story - thank you. I love old things in general and their history, so I understand the passion.

actually i had hoped for few more people to have interest in this subject
it was hell of a job to put it out here (to get the story in comprehensible english was the hardest part)
apart from the fun i had involved in this story i think i was worth all the trouble and if only because Kylie kind of liked it
but here is another round for all of them from this side of the ocean who should have waked up by now:)
for example it would be nice if someone coud help me out on some (technical)data regarding this red machine
i had a search on google but it did not bring much
must be a real rare than i guess

Good pictures and a good story. I had no idea that Porsche ever made tractors, we know them better for their fast sports cars.

I like the one titled Porsche 2. The curve of the cowling really draws the eye in.

Thank You, Wil, for posting this charming story and photogrpahs. It was enjoyable to read about your account with the farmer and the tractor. I found it all quite interesting.
