For a couple of week I have been thinking of a website name and finally desided on justinblackphotos.com ......so i did a quick search and found a justinblackphoto.com.... I was wondering if I am allowed to use my address because it has an x-tra "s" at the end?...I'm just double cheking because the other Justin Black seems to be a very famous photographer and I don't want to get in trouble..

Thanx for the help :)

Yes, you can have it.

should be fine, since you can prove you have a reason for having that domain (i.e. it's your name too).

if your name was joe brown or something, you'd have a harder time making your case if the justin black dude complains. :)

If you are going to use this commercially, you might want to consider that some of your potential customers might end up at the other site as they will instinctively leave off the s.

How weird... I was looking at domain names and //www.laurieblack.com is taken by a (really good) photographer in Seattle (I think). So I'd have to go with laurielblack and that I figure would still get confusing.

Must be our last name...it makes us so talented and popular. Then again, we know how badass Black is. ;o)

Ahhh, great minds...
I had a similar idea. Found this site where you can enter terms and see what's taken and under which domains. You can put in a few terms and get some decent suggestions as well.
The site

.com is a domain, for example, i have maxj.net, some one else has maxj.com,

for you JUSTINBLACKPHOTO.com is taken but, JUSTINBLACKPHOTO.NET is still open

no difference at all, just the name, one has .net at the end the other has .com at the end, these different domains were created for the exact predicament you find yourself in, and also so they would have more domains to sell :P

This is wild. For the last week I have been trying to think of a website name as well. I wanted sdphotos.com, sdphotographs.com, sdwphotos.com, sdphotographs.com, and all of the above without the "S" on the end and they all were taken. I didn't want to use my full name because I am not a professional photographer at any level. I just wanted a website to host my pictures and I could layout my design. I found HOST EXCELLENCE and you can't beat the price of $9.95/mo. for:
3000MB of Webspace
30 sub Domain names
100 GB Monthly transfer
2 free Domain names
Unlimited Email, And so much more you would have to see.

I was thinking about making a business site in the future to promote photographers in the US and around the world as a way of making some money since I'm out of work due to illness.
