Don't know if this has already been discussed, but I was curious how others got to be on this website. eg. was it recommended? Did you just come across it?
I was searching for an old friend not seen for over 20 years and I knew he was interested in photography. Well his name and photography linked me to this site. While he has never partiipated in any challenge and doesn't have anything on his profile, I found dpc so interesting that I am now a member!

I'm a poet, our poetry website, very large and active, has an art forum, someone there mentioned this place (I put a lot of pix up there), and so I came over and paid my 25 bucks the same day. Now they miss me at the poetry site, LOL.

After I got my first digital camera, I was just surfing around on photography one day and stumbled on it. I registered, and within 20 minutes, I had already upgraded to member. I was really impressed by the community and the website.

I believe any person with the remotest interest in photography would pbobably want to be a part of dpc after seeing the sight. I find it really interesting to read other peoples stories of how we all ended up here. Our different paths leading to one place!

I am a Dutch poet and photographer (amateur that is) and in one of the websites I participate, someone had this link. I joined, payed the price and uploaded some photo's, but I haven't had much time on hand lately to explore all there is to explore.

I swear, I was just sitting here working away on my computer and someone hit me over the head, drugged me and plugged me into DPC. I have been trying to escape for six months. Please help me.

I googled "digital photography" a few months after I got my point and shoot. At that point I was just starting to take an interest in photography and I'd taken some shots I was really proud of - but I have to admit, on seeing some of the great work on the front page that week I was initially a bit discouraged - I obviously wasn't on that level, so I kept shooting stuff with the p & s but didn't venture back here for a few more months.

When I did come back, I hovered around for a bit, went through some of the backlogs of great work here, and, eventually the 'parts' challenge came up. Now if that wasn't the perfect challenge for me I didn't know what was (half of my entries to date would meet that challenge!). Sadly I didn't get time to go out shooting properly that week, but one day I was sitting at a train station, took a decent photo of a park bench, submitted it, and voila, an addiction was born.

If I remember correctly I googled digital photography and DPChallenge came up. I visited the site was impressed enough to registered. After several months had passed by I became a member. NO regrets, and have made many friends here. What was so appealing about this site after being here for a while was the community’s ability to disagree, debate but yet respect each other. My photography has improved some and I enjoy my hobby more knowing I have a community of people to share it with that will be there to give advice.

A friend of mine, monkey12, put a link to this site on his messageboard. A few days of browsing the photos and next thing I knew I was paying $25 to become a member $$$. A couple weeks later, I upgraded from my old .83mp Mavica to the Rebel $$$$. A few months later I was buying some new lenses $$$$$$. I can't explain it, I never pay to join websites but I couldn't resist the lure of DPC. I think it's the strange xray vibes they send through the computer to kind of zombify you $$$$..... Once you're in you ain't ever gettin' out $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Langdon's brother Wells told me about the site shortly after it went live.

Two years ago, our local city newspaper, The Cleveland Plain Dealer, did a feature article on digital photography in the Sunday section. The reporter gave a glowing account of this site in the article. Followed up on it. His recommendation was right on. Often wonder if he is a member of the site himself and who he is!
