Im new here so this may be a stupid question. Is there a normal criteria for voting on images. Should it be weighted to how well they fulfilled the challenge of the week.
My first try is in negative challenges...
P.S.I think the whole idea of this web page is genius |

Shadow,
there is not 'set' method for scoring other than 1 = very bad, and 10 = very good. I try to rate 'average' photos at 5.
You do have to find your own way of filtering in the concept of meeting the challenge :) That's half the fun... the fact that different people score by different guidelines is what makse the voting and scores so 'conversational' here sometimes :)
Welcome aboard :)

WELCOME!
Genious is a great word for this site...THANKS to Drew and Langdon....and to the people here that make it a great place.
Shadow...as for voting, everyone has their own take or style, but you can do a search in the forums, or check this one out (the link below) also, autool (username) has a scripted way of voting, while others just go with what they know or feel. Voting/critiqueing changes over time (ok, well at least it has for me) I've noticed that the more I've learned the better I can critique (but believe me, I have a long way to go still).
You will learn sooo much here, and never ever hesitate to ask...you'd be amazed at how many people are so helpful and how much knowledge and experience there is here.
GOOD LUCK (look forward to seeing your submits!)

Welcome... The only real rule on voting is "While voting, users are asked to keep in highest consideration the topic of the challenge and base their rating accordingly." Beyond that, as others have said, it's up to you.
Personally, I vote on how well I think a photo meets the challenge, how aesthetically pleasing it is to me, and technical merit, in that order of importance. Everyone votes differently and even on something which sounds simple (like focus or color), you'll get vastly different opinions on the same photo. It leads to a lot of "spirited" discussions.
Mark
