Just curious, what's the taxi situation like in DC? Are they pretty available, like in NY or scarce to none? especially in the early morning hours.

Cabs in this area are harder to find. Not impossible, but think like Wall Street at 3am. Downtown is just dead. Don't worry though, I promise I'll have something set up so nobody get's stuck.

Thanks Clara. :-) Looks like you can go ahead and move us to the "Definite" list. We've found a couple of hotels in DC, the Hilton Washington Embassy Row on Massachusetts Ave. or the Hilton Washington on Connecticut Ave. that we can use Hilton Points for and they don't seem to be too far from the memorials. Probably not walking distance at 4:00am but still close. :-) Just need to find a flight now. We will most likely be coming in Friday afternoon and leaving Sunday afternoon or evening depending on when we can get a flight out.

With regard to the comment about Clubjuggle: This means anyone staying at a hotel would need to either stop shooting at 3, commit to keep going until 7, or drive in and pay for parking.

Most, if not nearly all, of the parking lots downtown do close... so anyone who chooses to drive in should plan on trying to find street parking, if they plan on leaving early. If you're in a garage and it closes, well, you'll be SOL. Just FYI.

Well the planning for NotaCon continues forward. I'm starting to work on reservation levels, and still trying to determine if I need to call the Hyatt and get a block of rooms done. If you are a local and planning on coming, or think you are coming please let me know. :)

I'm already booked at the Hyatt if somebody wants to split the room.

Shannon I would split the room if you want

Just a sticky note for Clara here...

My friend Mike Flannery will be joining us on the outings, so please include him on any lists we have generated =)

Just as a reminder, we still have floor space available for the Night Tour! I'm going to start event planning this next week, so I'd love to know how many tickets for various events I'll need. :)

If you are a local and would like to come, drop in a note. :) Come one come all!

I think I'd like to get in on this action... This would be my first foray into a DPC GTG. I live about 3 hours from DC, so would probably just drive up for the day/night without getting a hotel (I have friends in the area that I can stay with, as I used to live up there.).

Please add me to the potential attendees and I look forward to getting more details!

BTW: My personal preferences for visits would include

Botanical Gardens
Vietnam War Memorial
The Bridges over the Potomac

:-) THANKS!

We have you on the list now SJ :)

Is the National arboretun the same as the botanical gardens?
We have that on the list of possible places plus the aquatic gardens

I only know them as the National Botanical Gardens. It is a beautiful glass enclosed building next to the Smithsonian, filled with magnificent flowers & wildlife. They could have changed the name (as I've been out of that area for 10 years now). It's probably the same thing. I can't imagine them having a National Arboretum in addition to the National Botanical Gardens.

I'm really stoked at coming up for this... I need to make some phone calls & line up my housing arrangements! I can't begin to tell you how much this site has done for me - and the thought of meeting some of the people I've come to know and admire LIVE & In-Person means to me! LOL - I sound like a silly schoolgirl.

Anywho, thanks & I look forward to seeing you all - along with some incredible sites.

Ok...just some info that might be helpful to others. I made our reservations for two nights at Bethesda Hyatt (YAY!) My rate was a AAA discount, which includes a FULL hot breakfast each morning and it was $103.20 per night before taxes. There is also a $9.00 per day parking cost.

Just thought others might want to have the info. If you have AAA, it seems like a good deal.

I forgot to add that they do not require a deposit of any kind and reservations can be cancelled up until 3 pm the day before without penalty.

Unfortuantely, I have to withdraw from going to this event. I hate to do it, but I was invited up to New York to stay in a super exclusive rich people's lodge with my gf's fam that weekend.
Just too good of an opportunity to miss.
I will come next time! :)

What's the "agenda" looking like these days?

I'm planning to arrive (with hubby) on Friday around noon. Is there still a dinner-time gtg? Are we really thinking about staying out all night and shooting monuments? Will we be winding down on Sunday around noon...or should we plan to stay over so's not to miss major afternoon festivities?

(I'm psyched, just need to plan my naps.)

The Friday dinner GTG will be at Mcrochips house, I will be cooking and am on the look out for as many volunteers as I can get :-)

My major interests are the nighttime shots. I wouldn't mind doing two nights of different locations...Friday night and Saturday night. My hubby and I would probably spend daytime hours Saturday doing some things he'd like to do and see in town. He does plan on joining us for the get together parts as well. We'll be in town from Friday morning or afternoon until Sunday afternoon probably.

Di, there has been a change of plans as far as Friday morning shopping goes. Terry and Steve live far apart, so Terry will take me grocery shopping Friday morning.

Both hubby and I are (very) handy in the kitchen and will gladly pitch in wherever, however, and whenever possible. Can we bring something?

(And what sort of hosting gift do you think Mcrochip would like...PM me about that.)

Thanks Di! I'm just trying to keep up. I wouldn't want to miss anything. (I thought we'd be going out after mcrochip's dinner party to shoot...thus arriving early enough to, ahem, "rest up"...sound like I'm 90, don't I?)
